Description

Oliver’s Taranga has been part of McLaren Vale since the 1840s, with six generations of the Oliver family farming the same patch of dirt. These days Corrina Wright is running the show in the winery, keeping things fresh but always staying true to what this vineyard does best – Shiraz.

The 2022 vintage follows on from the cooler 2021, but with a bit more structure and grip. It’s still got that plush McLaren Vale generosity – dark fruit, spice, a little chocolatey richness – but wrapped up in a frame that feels just a touch more serious. The tannins are fine and firm, giving the wine shape without getting in the way of all that flavour.

It’s the sort of Shiraz that’s easy to enjoy now but will definitely reward some time in the cellar. Honest, flavoursome, and made by a family that’s been doing this for generations. Hard to beat for value.

Halliday Wine Companion 92 Points

Picked from eight blocks, some fruit cold soaked and some with extended macerations, matured in hogsheads and puncheons, 20% new. The deft blending across blocks of varying ages, with nuanced ferments and oak matched to fruit, results in a wine of fruitful presence, depth, balance and admirable freshness. Ripe red berries, dark plum, soused cherries, blackberries, iron and dusty earth, with a salted bitter chocolate note on the palate, oak marshalling drive but a relative bystander, tannins the right amount of dry.

    Stunning drop

Absolutely delicious! It's thick, bold and juicy with plenty of depth. Originally had this wine at a restaurant which was $98 per bottle.

    Great

I really enjoy the wine, only problem is they are very hard to open. Any ideas on the best way to remove seal ?

Shiraz is what the Oliver’s love and it is in Shiraz that they trust. A full-bodied, rich wine; dark chocolate and mocha notes fill the nose, while the palate is all mulberries, dutch liquorice and cacao. It will reward aging, just as the same sweet patch of dirt has rewarded the Oliver family for generations.

Bright mulberry and blackberry with dark chocolate and mocha notes—everything expected from a trusted McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Palate

Wine & Vintage
2022 was another outstanding vintage in McLaren Vale. A long, cool ripening period with no heatwaves provided ideal conditions for perfect Shiraz ripening.

The Year That Continued
2022 was also a year of accolades for the Taranga team. The cellar door won the Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award, was named Best Large Cellar Door by Gourmet Wine Traveller, and received both the Wine Communicators Australia Best Cellar Door Section Award and the overall trophy for Best Wine Communicators in the Country. Alongside these honours, the team continues to maintain an impressive 4.9-star Google rating.
