Description

Ministry of Clouds have been quietly producing some exceptional, light-footed reds from McLaren Vale since their first vintage releases in 2015.

Enticing aromas of rose bush and raspberry, with an elbow-nudge of herbal spice. The palate is long and lingering, involving some darker fruit flavours but the overall feel is one of grace.

This is sexy stuff with a good life ahead for the patient among us.

"Pretty, raspberry and strawberry, a smattering of dried herbs, almond paste, white pepper... Delightful. Such a good drink."

94 points - "Pretty, raspberry and strawberry, a smattering of dried herbs, almond paste, white pepper. Medium-bodied, juicy red fruits, but good freshness and control through the palate, acidity has a bit of ‘mineral’ thing. Iron filings. It offers a lively finish of good length, that’s bright, and sweet/sappy. Delightful. Such a good drink." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

94 points & Top 100 Australian Wines of 2023 - “Always a delicious wine, this. Often the best cuvee of the range, with the carignan (30%) delivering a thirst-slaking kit of gristly tannic mettle, mitigating any sense of floozy fruit. Full-weighted, although as with so much of the range, a little lighter and fresher of feel. A subtle hint of reduction confers tension and floral lift, before dried raspberry, lilac, orange balm and tea tree splay broad and long. Excellent drinking. Drink or hold. Screw cap.” - Ned Goodwin MW (James Suckling)

I think MOC make some of the most delicious and reasonably priced wines going. They are consistently beautiful and interesting wines. Big fan!

    Unique and delicious blend!

This really impressed as a unique blend here in Australia. Great easy-drinking wine with characteristic carignan influence to go with the grenache.

We have long believed that blended wines are nourishing to the soul. As good for the mind as they are for the belly and always versatile with food. Here we have a homage to the Spanish wines of Priorat, merging very old bush vine Grenache and spicy dry grown Carignan.

Composition
Fragrant Grenache fruit provides raspberry, crunchy sour cherry and pomegranate lift, with a serious lick of spicy depth and amaro bitters from the Carignan. A balance between red scented perfume with a core of depth and width, earthy, and layered complexity buried within. The palate is long and lithe, with a depth of fruit intensity, filed nicely back by a line of sandy tannin.

Consumption
Serve it coolish but not cold to preserve aromatics, this wine is perfect for warm sunny days cooking fish or meat over charcoal, with big generous salads and slab of manchego on the table... Eat with your hands, and do the dishes tomorrow!

Ministry of Clouds

Ministry of Clouds is a partnership between wine industry 'veterans' Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood, who set up the venture in 2013, with their first releases coming in 2015.

Having worked for some of Australia's leading wineries such as Yalumba and Wirra Wirra, the duo began sourcing outstanding fruit from Tasmania and Clare Valley for white wines, and McLaren Vale for reds.

McLaren Vale is their home, and as well as their own 11ha plot, they seek out old vineyards around the peninsula, with a focus on Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz and Tempranillo, along with the occasional foray into Carignan and Picpoul.
