Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy Winner
- 2023 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards

The Lowestoft La Maison Pinot Noir is a new contender in the pantheon of Australia’s greatest Pinots, and it’s here in incredibly limited quantities.

Hand-picked from vines planted in 1986, this Pinot is a snapshot of the finest fruit from the Lowestoft vineyard, perched on the northern edge of Hobart. Despite the poor soils, these old vines deliver some of the most stunning Pinot Noir in the country, year after year.

Fermented with up to 100% whole clusters and aged for 13 months in French oak, this wine has a brooding, structured character with spicy whole-bunch elements and a dusty, earthy finish. The nose is all dark cherry, black tea, and dried sage, with a hint of amaro, while the palate unfolds with vibrant red fruits, graphite, and lingering notes of orange peel and herbs. The tannins are plush yet elegant, and the wine’s vibrant acidity promises it will age beautifully.

Awarded 97 points by Tyson Stelzer and crowned with the 2023 Jimmy Watson Trophy, the 2022 La Maison is a new star in Australian Pinot Noir. But with such limited availability, it’s a wine that won’t be around for long.

"The most sublime Australian Pinot Noir I have ever tasted. After I named the 2020 vintage Pinot Noir of the Year in the Halliday Wine Companion, if it wasn’t already clear that the old Pinot vines of the Lowestoft vineyard are among the finest in the country, the 2023 Jimmy Watson for the 2022 certainly confirmed it."

Very enjoyable to drink. Will be interesting to see how much it improves with a few years of cellaring.

Brooding dark cherry and plum aromas evolve in the glass, ultimately revealing a lifted, sweet perfume of redcurrant, raspberry, dried thyme and subtle oak spice.

Richly layered dark fruits provide a dense core with earthy undertones, Christmas cake and sweet tea driving vibrancy and length. A beautifully structured wine showing both power and finesse. Will reward cellaring.
