Description

Koomilya sits deep in McLaren Vale’s Blewitt Springs, a quiet patch of native scrub and ironstone soils that Steve Pannell first fell for decades ago. He bought the old vineyard in 2012 after years of making wines from its fruit under other labels, determined to explore it on its own terms. The site’s history runs back to the 1800s, and there’s a sense of age and steadiness in everything that comes from it.

The 2022 vintage was cool and drawn out, one of those slow, measured seasons that gives Shiraz real tension and drive. The fruit was hand-picked, fermented wild and left to rest in large, old oak until the edges softened and the layers found their balance.

It’s unmistakably Koomilya – dark and savoury, but not heavy. Blackberry, plum and spice sit over earth, iron and dried herb. The palate is structured and long, coiled rather than lush, carrying that mix of fruit, tannin and salt that marks the site. A serious, soulful wine built to age gracefully.

Taken from two blocks of low yielding, unirigated Shiraz planted in the early 1990’s by the previous custodians, Don and Jill Cant. Nursed and nurtured since purchase in 2014 these blocks are finally ready to produce a Koomilya Estate Shiraz.

The second year of the current La Nina cycle saw a wet winter and spring followed by a mild summer and a dry autumn. Poor flowering due to wild spring weather including high winds, frost and hail led to lower than desired yields. Quality was good due to the long, slow ripening period.

A vintage to watch!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
