Description

For wine lovers everywhere, the quest to find affordable, interesting Pinot Noir that makes you blush like only Pinot can, is constant...

One of the heroes of this much sought after variety is undoubtedly the Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir. Made by Yarra Valley maestro Franco D'Anna, this is pure Pinot Noir to its core.

It's earthy, lifted, vibrant and just ludicrously drinkable.

There's a very good argument to be made that this Australia's best Pinot Noir in this price range. How the D'Annas produce this quality at the price remains a mystery but they do it year in, year out.

Hoddles Creek Estate is the gold standard for quality, affordable Pinot Noir in Australia. Back up the truck.

Red berries and dark cherry dominate the nose, firm mid palate tannins lead to pleasing acidity on the back.

All fruit is hand-picked in the morning and immediately de-stemmed with no crushing. In tank the fruit will have a small addition of sulphur. Some batches were left to cold soak for approximately 4-5 days, whilst others started fermentation immediately. Natural and cultured yeasts were used on different ferments. Pigage and delastage were used for cap management. Some ferments will undergo post maceration, depending on the tannin structure and the style of the wine. On completion of fermentation the wine was gently pressed and transferred to 30% new, 30% one year old and the balance in two and three year old oak, After 11 months of barrel maturation, the wine was assembled and bottled without filtration or fining.

93 Points - "Cherry, plum, baking spice, a little more earthy – more bass than treble here – some vanilla, thyme and mint in the mix too. It’s full of juicy red and black fruited flavour, a slight orange peel amaro twist through it, a pleasing amount of grainy/silty tannin, kind of autumnal too, a little rhubarb and spice, with a juicy and sappy finish of excellent length. Lots of flavour and a good amount of chewy texture. It’s balance of finesse and bouncy Pinot character should pretty much satisfy every drinker." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

92 Points - "Good depth of bright purple-red colour, fresh and brilliant, with a lifted aroma of red fruits, raspberry and red cherry, laced with peppermint and a chaffy note, the palate intense and direct, remarkably deep and structured for a wine of this price, the considerable flavour backed up by generous tannins which are fleshy and supple. Excellent value." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

    Incredible QPR (Quality/Price Ratio)!

An excellent vintage for this Estate Pinot - concentrated cherry/black fruits, together with lovely silty tannins.

Yes, 4 stars is high on a 'world' scale, however, to repeat, the QPR is outstanding...

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
