Description

Sourced from 20-year-old vines in one corner of the Merricks vineyard, this is the most distinctive and intense of the Garagiste Pinot Noirs.

The Terre De Feu is a special 'reserve' that sits above his stunning single vineyard wines.

This was made with 100% whole bunches, and as with all the other Garagiste wines, is completely unfined and unfiltered. Every drop of nuance from the vineyard preserved in the bottle. Stunning stuff.

Cropped from a specific half-acre of the Merricks Grove vineyard, Terre de Feu (the land of fire) takes its name from the vein of pure red ferrosol soils of this plot. Many years ago, Barney noticed that the vines in this ironstone buttonhole were producing slightly smaller bunches, yielding wines of greater depth and concentration than the surrounding vineyard. Thus, in 2013 the decision was taken to create this micro-cuvée. The power of the fruit enables a 100% whole-bunch ferment, and Terre de Feu remains Garagiste’s only Pinot to be made this way. The 2022 spent 21 days on skins, followed by 10 months in 30% new oak hogsheads.

This is the most powerful and structured Pinot that Garagiste produces. It’s such an inviting wine—bright with delicious bunchy fragrance, pure Pinot fruit and supporting tones of warm earth and spice. The whole-bunch is seamlessly integrated, working in tandem with generous and fleshy fruit weight, polished tannins and star-bright acidity. It’s seductive, supple and mouth-wateringly moreish with a spice flecked, lengthy close. Hat’s off; it’s a brilliant wine.

94 Points - "So much spice and stalky whole bunch meatiness, and yes, some capsicum, and yet, while it’s a theme here, it adds an extra dimension to both aromatics and texture, and that’s not always the case with such things. Exotic, kind of smoky and earthy, sweet strawberry and sweet spice, cool acidity, a graphite feel to tannin, so ‘mineral’, autumnal yet fresh, with a finish of superb length. It all just works. It’s a wine of great character and charisma. I love it. As an aside, I’d maybe enjoy this in its youth; it’s already complex, though I feel that perhaps that whole bunch character may dominate in years to come. That being said, I’ve been wrong once before." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    Nice fruit driven Pinot

A quite typical fruit driven Mornington Peninsula Pinot. Will improve further with age.

Garagiste Wines

Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders.

After leaving Allies Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.

They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
