Description
Forest Hill holds a special place in WA wine history – the first cool-climate vineyard ever planted in the state back in 1965. Half a century on, the Lyons family continues to farm these old vines in Mount Barker organically and dry-grown, crafting wines that are as authentic as they are refined.
The 2022 Estate Cabernet is drawn primarily from blocks planted in 1975, with a small portion of Malbec adding lift and flesh. It’s a slow-grown, cool-season Cabernet that drink beautifully from day dot.
In the glass, it’s all classic Cabernet markers – blackcurrant, mulberry and violet, edged with cigar box, bay leaf and a gentle earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied but layered, with a core of dark fruit wrapped in fine-grained tannins and just the right lick of French oak (20% new, plus time in a large foudre). There’s power, but also restraint and pound for pound, it's one of the best buys from WA right now.
It’s drinking beautifully now after a good decant, but will reward six to eight years in the cellar as those savoury notes deepen and the structure mellows. Benchmark value from one of WA’s true Cabernet heartlands.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
