Description

Bruce Dukes is one of the sharpest minds in western viticulture, and Morus is the absolute pinnacle of his Cabernet production. It comes from a single vineyard of mature, late-1970s Houghton clone vines in the gravelly heart of Wilyabrup. The site is flanked by native Jarrah trees, which locals use as a biological indicator that the dirt is perfectly matched to elite Cabernet.

The wine takes its name from 'Morus australis', the mulberry tree, which hints at the distinct fruit character defining this specific terroir. The 2022 season was exceptional here, catching cool ocean breezes that allowed the grapes to build immense flavor without tracking too high in sugar. Dukes gave it 14 months in French oak, letting the dense fruit seamlessly integrate with the wood.

It is a commanding bottle of wine. The nose reveals an alluring mix of black fruits, cassis, bay leaf and graphite. On the palate, a plush fruit core is wrapped in firm, pillowy velvet tannins and a long line of structural acidity. It packs all the power you expect from Wilyabrup, yet finishes with a refined polish that keeps you coming back.

"Totally seamless and integrated, with a sustained lingering finish."
- Ray Jordan

98 points - "This was a good year in Margaret River, delivering fruit of tremendous intensity and good structure. In this case, it's been captured in this superb cabernet sauvignon that demonstrates the awesome power of the region, but with finesse, refinement, and a real polish on the finish. Black fruits, bay leaf, and graphite on the nose. A palate that shows almost a sweet fruit middle, but then the structure wraps around it and carries it forward with tremendous intensity. Totally seamless and integrated, with a sustained lingering finish." - Ray Jordan

96 points - "The 2022 Morus Cabernet Sauvignon is leafy and fine, with dried mint, sage and bay leaf, cassis, dark chocolate, ironstone and nori. In the mouth, the tannins are finely wrought and savory, lingering long after the fruit has faded through the finish. The fruit is Houghton clone (sometimes referred to as the Roche clone, from the Roche family vineyard in Frankland River where the genetic material was originally sourced), and the oak used for élevage is from three French forests, which allowed the fruit tannins to shine. There's blackcurrant and licorice, ground black pepper and loads of that lovely, marine-based kelp/umami/nori note that Margaret River Cabernet can achieve. It's also structural. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "Concentrated, refined aromas of blackcurrants, plum skin, bay leaves, cocoa and pencil shavings. The palate is full-bodied and layered with firm yet polished tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of dark cherries, mulberries, cedar, graphite and cloves. Powerful and composed with impressive length and no hard edges. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

Our finest cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of Margaret River. The gravelly soils of the vineyard are flanked by the dominant native hard wood trees named Jarrah. Jarrah trees have become a favourable and exact biological indicator that the site is ideally matched to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fruit expression from this site includes violets, cassis and mulberry. Indeed, mulberry is a very attractive fruit character which is a unique part of the terroir expression of Margaret River Cabernet and our local heritage clone. This cuvée is named to reflect this unique mulberry character; Morus australis being the genus and species name for the mulberry tree.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
