Description

Brendan Keys gives himself permission to blend up something delicious with this wine without having to adhere to any set conventions. He has 'Carte Blanche' to get wild.

Multiple barrels of Chardonnay from his single vineyards, plus a splash each of Pinot Gris, Gruner Veltliner & Riesling with some extra lees thrown in for good measure.

It feels like a leesy, full-flavoured Chardonnay on opening but in the background sits some spicy ginger notes and a little herbaceous lift as well as a trace of savouriness.

Cool stuff from BK, and a very satisfying glass of white wine.

"A juicy, mid-weighted palate segues to a forceful thrust across the finish, equipped with mineral pungency and juicy acidity, doused with dried parmesan. Drive. Length. Deliciousness. Drink or hold."
- 95pts, Ned Goodwin MW (JamesSuckling.com)

We love white Burgundy, which, in theory, should be synonymous with ‘we love Chardonnay’. And while that is undoubtedly true – we do adore Chardonnay – there really is something about white Burgundy that is decidedly not just about Chardonnay. Call it terroir if you must, but those Burgundian vines have been there a long time… are we sure there isn’t a waif or stray hiding in the rows? In our experimenting, Carte Blanche White closes in on solving the conundrum. Made with any one of four Chardonnays that don’t quite fit the profile of our single-vineyard series – including one that’s spent a year on skins and another a year in barrel – along with a bit of Gris, a smidge of Grüner, a drop of Riesling and left on lees for a month, we’ve alchemied our way to white Burgundy. Very zippy, lots of French oak.

95 points - "An exceptional nose, founded on lees work and astute oxidative handling. A peel of curry powder, chamomile, roasted nuts, orange verbena and pithy, saline Jura-like maritime elements, like a crust of salt sitting on the lip of the glass. Chardonnay-driven, with dollops of gris, gruner and others. A juicy, mid-weighted palate segues to a forceful thrust across the finish, equipped with mineral pungency and juicy acidity, doused with dried parmesan. Drive. Length. Deliciousness. Drink or hold." - Ned Goodwin MW (JamesSuckling.com)

Dazzling revelation (if you can handle oxi)

Hit the high mark from the first sniff. Complex yellow peach, crushed almond and salty sea spray notes. Textural and lively in the mouth. The right balance of weight and freshness. Reminded me of the amazing Luis Seabra whites from Douro, Portugal, or a well mannered Jura at half the price. But you have to be into those styles or Manzanilla Sherry. Not your average Chardy. Best night one, before heavy duty Jura night two, pretty oxidised night three.

BK Wines

BK Wines is one of the poster boys of the modern artisan wine movement in the Adelaide Hills.

Owner/winemaker Brendon Keys is not afraid to do things differently. His wines toe the line perfectly between a lo-fi and scientific approach to winemaking. The wines are precise, edgy and layered, showing the perfect intersection of a natural wine ideology and sound technical craftsmanship.

His wines are creatively imagined, an artist meets skateboarding punk rocker kind of vibe. And they have a very solid and well-deserved following. In short, BK is one of the more respected producers of the Adelaide Hills avant-garde.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
