Description

The King's Wood Shiraz is one of the premium, small batch releases in the excellent Yangarra portfolio.

One of the best portions of the Yangarra vineyard was selected for this wine. There were 25% whole bunches used in the ferment, the fruit hand-picked and carefully double-sorted for quality control before being hand-plunged and left to rest in a huge oak cask before bottling. Oak is well and truly in the background here, a mere player in the overall symphony of this spectacular wine. Winemaker Peter Fraser and team highlighting the quality and vibrancy of their fruit as the hero in this wine.

This is a pristine example of McLaren Vale Shiraz at its absolute best. Poised, polished and powerful, it's a beautiful wine with a long life ahead.

97 points
"A wine of remarkable intensity. Purity and balance underwrite a future measured in decades."
- James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

Royal Oaks of the King’s Wood were forests planted by monarchs to build elegant cathedrals and church naves. The beautiful old French oak in our foudre vessels helps us make elegant wine by gradually polishing and protecting the brightest, spiciest south facing Shiraz we grow at Yangarra.

97 points - "From a 2.3ha Maslin Sands block, 20% whole bunches, 30% whole berries, 50% crushed; wild fermented and matured for 16 months in new and used 25hL French foudres. A wine of remarkable intensity. Purity and balance underwrite a future measured in decades." - James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

95 Points - "Dark, inky and really opaque and youthful in the glass. Evocative aromas of mulberry, rhubarb, satsuma plum, licorice, char and spice. Rich, mouth-filling and plush on the palate, oodles of dark fruits, spice and creamy oak. A powerful wine with very supportive tannins and acidity ensuring texture, mouth-feel and brightness." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

94 Points - "Lusty, slurpy red with beefiness and sweet-sour tendencies in the nicest sense.
Stains the palate thick with rich, red fruitiness, some cola and light coffee
elements, touches of toast and clove. Scents like all that, big wall of it, effective
in delivery of McLaren Vale shirazisms. It’s a lovely red, relishes its warm-hearted
appeal, delivers concentration and many layers. It feels fine tuned too, in the
sense that there’s some decent tannin licks and woody spice to show edges. Nice." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Elegant McLaren Vale

Beautiful drop this one. Elegant Shiraz, very well balanced. Would definitely buy again and pop some away for the cellar for about 10 years I reckon. Great value considering the quality

Surprisingly a cooler climate wine from the McLaren vale

Expected a bigger wine given the region and vintage, but it’s not. I mean it in a good way. Very fine and balanced!

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate is one of a small group of powerhouse wineries to raise its head from the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. Their wines are made entirely from an amazing old bush vine single vineyard, with the 2016 Halliday Winemaker of the Year, Peter Fraser, pulling the reins as winemaker. They are a certified biodynamic wine producer, and have even been named International Winery of the Year, twice!

They specialise in varieties found in the Rhone Valley. In the reds, their Grenache is as good as any in the land and is truly world class, with Shiraz and Mourvedre not far behind. The same applies to whites, the Roussanne expressions from Fraser’s experimentation with ceramic eggs are some of the most interesting in the country. In time, each of the 13 Rhone varieties will be grown on the Yangarra block.

A premium benchmark for the Blewitt Springs sub-region, and one of the country's modern day icon producers.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
