Highly Rated
The only Yangarra wine not made from the estate. But for a Grenache of this quality, we'd make the exception too...

Description

The Hickinbotham vineyard in Clarendon is owned by the same Jackson Family that own Yangarra. Pete Fraser makes the Shiraz wines from that block for the Hickinbotham super-premium releases. The same viticultural team works the vines on both sites. This isn't from the same sandy soils as the rest of the Yangarra Grenache wines but the quality and attention to detail is no different.

This wine adds another highlight to the near peerless array of McLaren Vale Grenache produced by this amazing team. It's pure, vibrant, densely packed with tannin.

It's another top-shelf expression of the region by this elite team.

From a site whose slopes are steeped in rich history, we source this Grenache from unirrigated bush vines planted in 1962 on the Hickinbotham Clarendon vineyard. Its distinctive fruit is nurtured with a gentle wild fermentation and matured in grand ‘cocciopesto’ amphorae. Capturing a contrasting expression of detailed perfume and a loose knit weave of tannins.

96 Points - "Fantastic. Skittish with cool, blood orange acidity under cherry pip, pomegranate
juice, cranberry with its dryness. Dried herbs, a truffley umami lick, Chinese five
spice, undergrowth and faint game meat. The tannins are the thing though, racy,
tight. a sheath of silt and al dente chew in a wine that defies it’s alcohol percent
and ends up finer, fresher, refreshing and bright. Feels 13% or so. It stretches
luxuriously on those tannins and finishes with a perfect reset each sip. Perfumed
as all get out too. It went from fish to chook to salads to a bean stew and had
more to go. Moreish to the max." - 96+ pts, Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

95 Points - "Medium-depth purple-red colour with a reserved but fragrant bouquet of red
fruits and floral overtones, a note of blackberry pastille, a subtle lacing of fresh
herbs, and a sheen of firming tannins coating the palate from start to finish. Long
and promising: a very smart grenache" - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

95 Points - "Aromas of sliced strawberries, pitted red cherries, white pepper, grated nutmeg
and rosemary stem. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, textural tannins.
Transparent and clear with pretty red fruits and berries washing over the palate
with lovely definition and drive. Vibrant and bright. Excellent finish" - James Suckling

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate is one of a small group of powerhouse wineries to raise its head from the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. Their wines are made entirely from an amazing old bush vine single vineyard, with the 2016 Halliday Winemaker of the Year, Peter Fraser, pulling the reins as winemaker. They are a certified biodynamic wine producer, and have even been named International Winery of the Year, twice!

They specialise in varieties found in the Rhone Valley. In the reds, their Grenache is as good as any in the land and is truly world class, with Shiraz and Mourvedre not far behind. The same applies to whites, the Roussanne expressions from Fraser’s experimentation with ceramic eggs are some of the most interesting in the country. In time, each of the 13 Rhone varieties will be grown on the Yangarra block.

A premium benchmark for the Blewitt Springs sub-region, and one of the country's modern day icon producers.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
