About The Wine

Tapanappa's Tiers Vineyard sits in the Piccadilly Valley, with the Chardonnay vines having been planted some 30-50 years ago. There's definitely an elegance here that owes something to the vineyard; a drive and length suited to a wine of such esteemed rootstock.

It's another stellar release from winemaker Brian Croser, who lets the grapes do the talking here. After picking, the fruit undergoes fermentation in French barriques, about one-third of which is new oak. A bit of lees work happens over summer, before racking and bottling in January.

A sensational wine of balance and finesse that shows just how exceptional Adelaide Hills Chardonnay can be.

About Tapanappa

Brian Croser is a legend in the Australian winemaking community. From his founding of Petaluma over 40 years ago, he helped put the Adelaide Hills on the map.

After ceding control of Petaluma in 2001, Brian founded Tapanappa, in partnership with the Bollinger, and Lynch Bages families, in order to continue with his vision, creating benchmark Australian wines.

His focus is on ensuring the right varieties are planted in the most suitable terroir for them, which is reflected in the name Tapanappa meaning ‘sticking to the path’ in the local indigenous language.

With three distinct vineyard sites across the Adelaide Hills, Wrattonbully and Fleurieu, Brian and his family produce elegant terroir driven wines.

From The Producer

The late ripening of a small crop in perfect cool, dry and sunny conditions, has defined a very special Chardonnay from the unique and distinguished Tiers Vineyard terroir. The colour is pale lemon green. The aroma is shy but intensely fresh, mainly of Chardonnay fruit, ripe nectarine with a hint of yeast cashew and oak spice.

The aroma compels the need to taste, which amplifies the intensity and freshness but with refined fruit sweetness and texture. Finally, the cutting edge of acid and slight grapefruit finish of a wine that may not yet have the power of the 2020 Tiers but has a finesse that is remarkable.

"The chardonnay vines on the Tiers Vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley are all now well over 30 years old though some are much older that that, having been planted in the late 1970s.This is stunning. Intense with flavour, chalky of texture, long of finish. Flint, grapefruit, pear and peach flavours charge with authority through the palate. Crushed fennel notes dance about the edges. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!

Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.

Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.

Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
