Description

There are two Shiraz in the Sons of Eden ‘Mystical Series’ of wines; Remus and Romulus. These ‘twin’ wines are named after the two brothers who are said to have built Rome.

As legend has it, Romulus, the brawnier and stronger of the two (the Barossa Shiraz in this case) killed his more refined, and elegant brother Remus (the Eden Valley equivalent), in a war over the naming of the city.

The best of their Eden Valley wines, Remus, is sourced from two separate 50+ year old vineyards. With a rigorous fruit selection policy and a healthy whack of new French oak, this wine is recognised as one of the highest quality examples of premium Shiraz from the region.

Powerful, complex and built to last, this is a Ferrari of an Eden Valley Shiraz.

"2021 was a fine year, and that fact shines through in this wine... A really impressive release"

"It’s a lot of wine, bold, and rich, but very good in that way."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

96 points - "Very complex aromas of wild blackberries, violets, graphite and spices. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins and balanced acidity, giving notes of mulberries, mocha, iodine, pepper and blackcurrants. Exceptionally well balanced and structured, with underlying tension and freshness. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - James Suckling

95 points - "An old vine Eden Valley shiraz sourced across several sites from 50- to 80-year-old vines; 15% whole bunches, 18 months French oak (60% new). 2021 was a fine year, and that fact shines through in this wine. Detailed with just the right amount of structural sinew pure sage, amaro and spice-flecked red and dark berry fruits, showing space, vitality and poise across its length. A really impressive release." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 Points - "I did three unit ancient history for my final years at school, and I’m proud to say that my eldest son is carrying on this proud tradition by not only doing ancient history, but also modern history. A chip off the old block. Aside that, Central Eden Valley 80+ year-old vines | Central Eden Valley 60+ year-old vines| Flaxmans Valley 80+ year-old vines, with 60% new French oak. Here’s a sweetly black fruited Shiraz of concentration and density. There’s sage and cocoa, mint/liquorice, sweet spices too, hazelnut, melting chocolaty tannin, balanced acidity, a little bit ferrous too, with a ripe, almost syrupy essence-like finish of excellent length. It’s a lot of wine, bold, and rich, but very good in that way." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    Eden valley shiraz

Outstanding purity of fruit and concentration. Needs time to breath and reveal its complexity, drink now but will reward further ageing.

A story that has intrigued us for years is the fable of the legendary founders of Ancient Rome, Romulus and Remus. These twins were abandoned at birth and reared by a she-wolf. Romulus murdered his twin in a fit of rage over the naming of Rome, the city which both had built. Legend presents Romulus as the stronger, more powerful of the brothers, while Remus was more refined, focussed and elegant. We believe the twins' characterise the distinctive and unique flavours and attributes of Shiraz from the twin valleys - the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley.
