Description

Bryan Martin's Estate vineyard in Murrumbateman has Sangiovese vines on it that go back 20 years. He has been refining his approach to this wine for many years now and has seemed to find a more traditional method of production as the best course of action.

This is his home-grown fruit sent to huge 2800L foudre for 22 months ageing. As Bryan explains, "A timeless method for this variety that allows it to progress slowly without gathering layers of oak."

The proof is in the pudding and it is clear that this is one of the more impressive Sangioveses in the country. Firm and gravelly with beautiful Autumnal aromatics, this is Sangiovese with a refined Australian accent.

Always popular, our latest release shows why our elevated region can produce finely poised sangiovese. Our process takes two years, after six months on skins the pressed wine is return to oak cuve until the following year where it is blended and matured in foudre for another year.

We give up some colour from the long skin contact but gain amazing texture and complexity.

94 Points - "What a thing. This is often a high water mark for sangio in Aus. Attractive pale garnet colour in the glass. Supple, sweet cherry set amongst bergamot tea (and tea tannin) with dried herbs, sour plum, licks of vanilla and a cool, faintly minty element. It’s lighter weighted than those words suggest, shy of medium weight, fine boned, structured and finishes long and with sweet spices. It’s not as chewy and firm as you’d expect, but the freshness and lift is lovely. Excellent, in a word." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

91 Points - "Made with estate-grown fruit in a lighter style, it retains an amazing tannin structure. Sandy, fine tannins that weave throughout the palate with acidity in tow. Sweet and sour cherries, lightly spiced, lightly fragrant, and a delicious drink." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Lovely & drinkable

A beautiful Sangiovese. Easy to drink with enough tannin and complexity to make you pause and enjoy, but not too cerebral for quaffing with a weeknight pizza.

    Ordered a case after trying

This wine was just so delicious; everything I want from an approachable sangiovese. The tasting notes in description are spot on.

A very nice Sangio to keep

Shows typical qualities of tannin and spice, but quite subdued - probably needs a few years in the bottle to express its true character

Ravensworth

Bryan Martin is one of the most creative and inquisitive winemakers we've ever met. After leaving his position as winemaker alongside Tim Kirk at Canberra regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, Bryan went full steam in on his own label Ravensworth, which has firmly hit cult status amongst collectors.

He and his wife Jocelyn have a beautiful property outside of Murrumbateman which is home to all of their excellent Estate wines and Bryan also searches surrounding vineyards and out to the Hilltops region to compile his excellent value Regional series of wines. Sustainability and an unwavering commitment to quality across the board underpin the entire operation at Ravensworth. Perhaps best known for his benchmark Shiraz Viognier and textural Rieslings, Bryan is also arguably the country's best producer of Sangiovese and is a true master of the dark art of skin-contact whites.

Bryan embodies everything we love about small artisanal Australian producers. He is humble, irreverent, committed to the pursuit of excellence and always looking to explore. Quite simply, if you see a Ravensworth wine anywhere, you should buy it.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
