Description

A patch of of Marsanne sits among the Syrah Vineyards in the Harcourt region, where the fruit for the POCW Harcourt Syrah comes from too.

This release is a homage to the richer Marsanne styles of the Rhone Valley, and is not made in the early-picked Aussie manner.

Dry, lithe and initially reluctant to show off, over time it reveals lemony, honey, spicy characters and a slippery fullness. Delicious now, but the best is yet to come.

This year our Marsanne comes from the same vineyard that has gifted our Harcourt Syrah. There is also a fair dollop of Roussanne in the blend, from the same site. Following our previous practice with this wine, the grapes were picked fully ripe, pressed hard, and sent straight to barrel (500 and 228lt) for fermentation and aging. Malolactic was left to happen naturally. After twelve months in cask, the wine was racked to tank for an additional ten months before being bottled at the start of February 2023. It will certainly age, gaining more and more honeyed characters, but it’s delicious now. It has the same power and richness of previous releases, yet with more vibrancy thanks to the Harcourt soils and climate, and the inclusion of some Roussanne in the blend.

94 Points - "Really textural, rich and potent, a savoury edge and more on the preserved lemon, ginger, buttery honey toast with cool acidity underlying. It’s very complex, a layered and intense experience with Serious White Wine written all over it. Mouth-coating and lush in the most wonderful sense. Multi-dimensional wine. A full and fantastic white wine." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

90 Points - "Medium-full yellow colour, quite forward for its age, the bouquet presenting ripe-fig and fig-jam aromas, spicy acacia honey and tropical fruits, the palate full-bodied and broad, rich and almost opulent with a kick of alcohol heat that lingers on the aftertaste together with a twist of bitterness from the skin tannins. A full-throttle style that demands hearty foods." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Place of Changing Winds

The Place of Changing Winds vineyard was planted by notable Australian wine importer, journalist, and author, Rob Walters.

Rob had hunted for a special site to plant in the cooler climes of Australia for many years. One day, esteemed grower/winemaker at Bindi, Michael Dhillon, called him and said, "Rob, I've found your vineyard."

The site sits at 500m above sea level in the Macedon Ranges. Rob has farmed it organically from the start. Planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at an incredible average of 15,000 vines per hectare, this is one of the most exciting emerging viticultural projects in the country.

New to the Place of Change of Winds range are wines from Heathcote high country, organically planted in collaboration with Rhone legend Alain Graillot. These delicious Syrahs, and a Marsanne for the first time from the 2019 vintage, were previously under the Graillot Australia label but are now fully vinified at Place of Changing Winds in Macedon.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
