About the Wine
It's hard to remember the era of overly oaked, overly rich and unctuous Chardonnays when you drink wines like this. Like waking from a dream, it just fades away. This is absolutely a modern Chardonnay with some traditional Old World flair.
There are some riper flavours coming through, which is pretty typical for the Hunter - peach, pear and grapefruit - with a lovely acid cleansing the palate on each sip. Some ground almond comes through, and some rolled oat. It will be long lived, that's for sure, but it's just so delicious now that there really is no reason to wait. If you serve this to your friend who "doesn't drink Chardonnay" you'll either convert them or have more to yourself. A win-win, really.
About M & J Becker
Husband and wife duo, Meagan and James Becker are a part of the new guard based in the Hunter Valley, fighting to reshape the region and its rigid preconceptions surrounding the growth and production of wine.
Making their wines with a focus on minimal intervention, their estate vineyard is currently in the process of conversion to certified organics.
After cutting his teeth in California, James returns to Mendocino County once a year to produce small quantities of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
M&J Becker Wines was realised to focus on Meagan and James passion for the region, and its ability to produce dry–grown and environmentally sustainable wine.
