The Peake is the most elite composite blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hickinbotham Clarendon vineyard in McLaren Vale.

The Shiraz is made by Yangarra winemaker Peter Fraser, the Cabernet by American Cabernet specialist Chris Carpenter. They combine the best, most luxurious components of each season's haul into this, their premier red wine.

It is a formidable yet supple beast and a fine nod to the great Australian Shiraz/Cabernet blends of the past. Truly a phenomenal example of this unique Australian red wine style, one that will reward the patient for many years to come.

Although the individual components of this wine are mighty, the sum of the Peake’s parts is magnificent. The Cabernet shines aromatically with notes of blackberry pie and dark chocolate, while the Shiraz fills the mid-palate with black plum and toasty oak. Fine tannins and balanced acidity contribute to an incredibly long finish. The Peake continues to honour the legacy of this iconic Australian blend.

97 points - "Dense, concentrated colour and a bouquet that suggests briars and tar/bitumen, with multiple herbs, blackberry and black cherry beneath, the palate loaded with mouth-coating tannins that complement the rich flavours. Traces of underbrush and a smidgin of tomato-bush. A big, solid, concentrated wine of long-term potential." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

96 points - "It’s the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and shiraz (40%). Amazing wine. Deep and elegant at once. Seamless, just so seamless. Blackcurrant and bay leaf notes, woodsmoke and cedar, roasted nuts, some coffee, some salted black olive characters. Tannin is immensely fine-grained; the finish all-round feels confident and long. Spread; that’s what this wine has. Lots of spread. It’s championship material. It’s a long-termer." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

96 points - This is a big wine, it’s deep almost purple hued tone is almost impenetrable. 60% Cab Sav 40% Shiraz, all from mature 1971 vines. Intense brambly black fruits, cassis, bay leaf, black olive, peppercorn, aniseed pastille and a slight potpourri note and a subtle campfire peatiness. Heavyweight, compact fruit is at the core of this wine, wrapped with experienced winemaking and new oak. Lifting its head through the tight weave is a nimble acid line, ducking and threading at a steady pace through the mouth. Tannins are firm and unrelenting, which will provide decades in the cellar. These muscles are so tightly knit, it will take a few deep tissue massages, a decant and time in the bottle to relax and open up. This is a power brokers wine, weighty and sure of itself, with well shined shoes. Would love to see this in ten plus years’ time." - Cassandra Charlick (Wine Pilot)

The Hickinbotham vineyard is somewhat of a legend amongst the Australian winemaking community.

Planted in 1971 in the Clarendon region, fruit from this important site has contributed to some of the most iconic wines in Australia's history, including Penfold's Grange, Eileen Hardy and Clarendon Hills.

Recently, the vineyard has undergone somewhat of a renaissance after being purchased by American wine juggernaut, the Jackson family, and being placed into the winemaking care of Yangarra winemaker Peter Fraser and respected American winemaker, Chris Carpenter.

These are elite premium wines that are made limited quantities and are built to mature gracefully. The ultimate addition to any serious collector's cellar.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
