Description

Concentration, elegance, and opulence. Just a few of the words that could describe this wine.

A GG (Grosses Gewachs, or Great Growth) Riesling out of Nahe in Germany, this is a shining example of this noble grape. Bone dry yet, yet wonderfully complex, the minerality here is out of this world. Stone fruit, and salinity, all together combine in harmony, with crystalline purity.

Wow, truly very little left to say, if you worship at the altar of Riesling, then this wine is a no doubt, must-have bottle.

"Power, complexity and brilliance make this a truly remarkable dry Riesling...”
- 98pts, Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com)

"This is a powerful, rich and persistent Hermannshöhle with a long, complex and aromatic finish with fine tannins and stimulating lemon bitters."
- 98pts, Stephen Rheinhardt (The Wine Advocate)

98-99 points - "Aged on the full lees until June this year and to be bottled the day after I tasted it, the 2021 Hermannshöhle GG offers a clear, deep, intense and complex bouquet of iodine slate aromas intertwined with lemon oil notes and those of crushed stones. Darker toned and more remote or aristocratic yet also intense and concentrated, it has a sur lie character and concentrated fruit. Full-bodied, dense, yet crystalline and saline on the palate, this is a powerful, rich and persistent Hermannshöhle with a long, complex and aromatic finish with fine tannins and stimulating lemon bitters. Still with rougher grip, this is an intense and lush, still dismissive Hermannshöhle. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022." - Stephen Rheinhardt (The Wine Advocate)

98 points - "Power, complexity and brilliance make this a truly remarkable dry Riesling, the touch of creaminess from long sur-lie maturation giving this exactly the soft touch it needs to balance the steely minerality that powers it at the imposing yet totally vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.” - Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com)

A perfect, steep southern slope with soils consisting of blackish grey slate and volcanic elements, extremely rich in minerals. This legendary site is the best-rated vineyard in the entire Nahe region.

The vines are up to 60 years old and give yields of about 40hl/ha. 100% selective hand harvest. The must is fermented and the wine matured in stainless steel vats and classic oak barrels. A very complex Riesling of noble elegance with a hugely intense, rich fullness of flavour and deep mineral tones. A great dry wine.
