Description

Charlie Melton has been championing the GSM blend since long before it was the "done" thing in the Barossa. Nine Popes remains the benchmark - a wine we’ve followed since the early days and one that consistently defines what this region can do with old-vine Grenache.

The 2021 vintage is a standout. It was a cooler, longer season, which shows up as a lovely sense of tension and poise. While there’s plenty of that trademark plushness, the wine feels more detailed and bright than in hotter years. The mix of Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro is seamless, offering a deep, savoury profile of dark cherries, star anise, and dried earth.

In the glass, it’s all about texture and flow. The tannins are fine and integrated, providing enough grip without ever feeling heavy. It’s a complex, living wine that’ll sit happily in the cellar for years, but there’s enough primary fruit and spice to make it a great choice for a big dinner tonight.

97 points - "I've mentioned previously that Charlie Melton's Nine Popes was one of the first wines that made me fall in love with Barossa wines. I guess you could call it a regional classic and it remains one of my favourite wines from the Barossa. A blend of old-vine grenache, shiraz and mataro from Krondorf, Rowland Flat and Eden Valley. Perfumed red and dark plum fruits with raspberry pip and citrus blossom top notes. Hints of dried citrus rind, medina spice, rose petals, charcuterie, bath talc, pan juices, gentle oak spice and earth. It's savoury and succulent at once with a sapid, briny energy and a sweep of sour morello cherries on the exit. So good." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

Lovely deep colour. Nice bright crimson edge to the colour. Opens on nose with a delightful spicy licorice all sorts amalgam of sweet perfume and spice, although 50% new oak was used, it remains in the background as a support to the exotic aromatics. Licorice and meat stock flavours lead into a plush rounded structure, with an excellent volume of finely wrought tannins to help shepherd this wine many years into the future.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
