About The Wine

For this smashable little red, winemaker Jo Marsh combines Barbera, Tempranillo, Dolcetto, Refosco and Sangiovese to make something slurpy and juicy which you can drink any night of the week.

The Barbera and Dolcetto gives you some lovely fine tannin as well as juiciness, the Refosco lends bright aromatics and sweet red berried fruit and Tempranillo lending depth and body. A teeny bit of Sangiovese is thrown in just for good measure, too.

It's the perfect mid-week quaffer to slosh into tumblers and watch a movie with a cheese plate.

About Billy Button

Billy Button is the charming Alpine Valleys based project of ubertalented winemaker Jo Marsh, now helped by her winemaker husband Glenn James and young winemaker Alex Phillips.

Billy Button focuses primarily on producing small batches of alternative varieties from good local growers in their small patch of Victoria. The team explores varieties that are rarely seen in the Australian landscape - you can find anything from Schioppettino to Verduzzo in this eclectic range.

Jo's gentle touch in the winery makes for beautifully balanced wines that show great texture and vibrancy. The Billy Button range is a little gem of North East Victoria. It's one of the more unique wine ranges in the country and the perfect place to begin your exploration of alternative varieties.

"A blend of 5 Mediterranean red grapes, 37/23/18/13/9% barbera/tempranillo/dolcetto/refosco/sangiovese. Demonstrates why blends matter, and even more so why Mediterranean grape varieties are so well suited to this part of the world. Vivid, deep purple hues. Red cherry, wild raspberry, fennel seed, earth and spice aromas are welcoming, fresh and vital. The palate is supple and even with a brisk acid crunch. So good, so more-ish. Terrific value." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Deep ruby-red core into a vibrant purple rim. Blueberry, anise and rosemary aromas. Medium-weight, a glide of dark fruits fills the core of the wine whilst layers of anise and cola spices entwine around it. A meaty undertone also shows itself and brings a depth and savoury complexity. It gently flows on soft tannins to a decent finish. It strikes me that the lack of varietals being listed is perfect for its style. A joy and great value." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

    Light, but with flavour

A light red, perfect with a BBQ meal. Great nose, great flavour but not so complex that you're drowning in notes.
