About the Wine
Looking for a fresher and easier style of amber wine? Well, traveller, your search is over. The Pelle not only offers superb value-for-money, it is an orange wine made with ease of drinking in mind - it's textured but also oh-so-juicy, complex but oh-so-approachable.
Vermentino and Greco were co-fermented, with Zibibbo added at a later date, and pressed into old French oak. The blend works beautifully here, with Vermentino and Greco bringing both flavour and weight, but Zibibbo adding heightened perfume. It's a pale orange colour, with notes of apricot, mandarin and freshly ground white pepper coming through before showing green mango and white peach. There is a lot of wine here for the price. Utter bargain.
About Amo Vino
The Riverland is the hottest wine region in Australia, and the second hottest in the world. For a long time, it was home to bargain basement grapes made for quantity rather than quality - Shiraz and Chardonnay which were heavily irrigated to increase yield and offset heat stress. But this is changing. Many producers are looking to other grape varieties which will tolerate the drought and heat, constants factor in the region.
After a visit to the Riverland and meeting with the region's best visionary and ambassador, Ashley Ratcliff of Ricca Terra Farms, wine industry legend Tim Stock decided to join the Good Fight. He has now partnered up with Ashley to make wine from the region, utilising appropriate grape selection and low to no irrigation and making wines which are not only fun, interesting and accessible, but a true reflection of the extreme terroir of the Riverland.
The Amo Vino range focuses on ease of drinking to prove that Australian wine is no one-tick pony (looking at you, Shiraz) and that the Riverland could just be the most exciting and overlooked region we have. Viva la revolution!
