So bright and pure... it leaves an ethereal clean fruit note lingering.

About the Wine

Ochota's wines have an air of rebellion about them - constantly challenging the status quo. Combining hands-off winemaking with a meticulous attention to detail, they've been creating some of South Australia’s most interesting wines of the last few years.

The Fugazi Grenache is a wine that is ahead of its time. It set the tone for a more elegant, pure-fruited, medium-bodied style of McLaren Vale Grenache which is always in vogue, if you ask us.

A Grenache with a pure heart and a rock and roll soul.

About Ochota Barrels

The term “rockstar winemaker” gets thrown around a lot these days but the late Taras Ochota, owner/purveyor of cult wine label Ochota Barrels, was certainly the real deal.

His grungy, minimalist attitude towards his label has seen him gain huge cult status internationally as one of the most boundary-pushing winemakers in Australia. His wife, Amber, is now at the helm at her home in the beautiful Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills. Their wines are crafted in small batches, with fruits sourced from surrounding vineyards in the Hills and special sites across McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley. Taras' legacy of lighter, more ethereal wines live on, with freshness and 'tension' as a motif.

These are highly sought after and extremely limited wines which have a pulsating energy and drive to them. Some of the country's most exciting vinous creations, no doubt.

"Medium ruby colour from core to rim. Bitters, redcurrants and wakame on the nose. Crystalline fruit on entry, so bright and pure on entry and then rolls into a more savoury, amaro flavour profile from middle to finish. Structure and drive are the dominant forces here, acid powering the high notes and sandy tannins rolling through underneath. Whilst the fruit-weight is light to medium, it still goes incredibly long and leaves an ethereal clean fruit note lingering. Cellaring patience will be rewarded." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)
