It’s epic. It’s complex as. It’s a full sense experience yet so balanced and fine. Unreal.

About The Wine

This is the top white wine in the Seabra stable.

It's a phenomenal wine. Seabra believes that the main variety in this blend, Rabigato, is the perfect vessel to convey the distinctive characteristics of the schisty slopes (hence Xisto).

The vines are 70 - 80 years old. The farming is all chemical-free. The wine is made with purity at the front of mind.

It's difficult to convey the power and persistence of the Xisto Cru. It feels like you are drinking a freight-train of minerals, stones and waxy/honeyed stonefruits. There is only a very small amount available in Australia, and it won't last long.

Rightfully so, it's absolutely brilliant.

About Luis Seabra

Luis Seabra is a revolutionary "rock star" winemaker based in the Douro Valley in Portugal.

He forged a formidable reputation for crafting some of the region's finest table wines and fortifieds during his tenure as winemaker at the regional standard-bearer, Niepoort.

The launch of his eponymous label was his chance to make wines according to his own style preferences. These are fascinating and detailed table wines crafted from old-vine, sensitively-farmed vineyards along the famed Douro terraces.

The high altitude and dry conditions are perfect for creating the focus and tension Seabra seeks in his creations. Since garnering wide acclaim for his cuveés, Seabra has reinvigorated international attention toward his home.

The Wine Front

"Made from a field blend of local, Portuguese grape varieties, from 1920-1930s plantings. Made by a tearaway, avant garde but high quality winemaker of Portugal.Oof, this one has zip and pucker, freshness and tension, precision and that undeniable sense of minerality, the latter laid on thick. Brined green olive, sea spray, jasmine and pot pourri scents, flavours set to saline green olive, green apple, faintest cashew nuttiness and a cavalcade of crushed rock-river stone pebbly character finishes the wine, and mouth-watering. It’s epic. It’s complex as. It’s a full sense experience yet so balanced and fine. Unreal." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

The Real Review

"Light yellow colour with a creamy bouquet combining floral and almond notes, and a hint of chicken-stock sulfides. The wine is intense and fine on the tongue with a dry but soft balance and manages to combine richness with refinement. Good persistence: a very appealing medium-bodied dry white." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

    Premier Crus Chablis Alternative?

This wine has the minerality and taught structure of high end Chablis along with some fantastic fruit that really makes this a wine for the senses and the mind. Cheap at this price. Get in whilst you can because I think this maker will soon command much higher prices.

    Premier Cru Chablis/Burgundy substitute

Seabra’s 2018 Albariño (Granito Cru) blew me away earlier, the best white I’ve tasted since top-end Chablis seduced me 15 years ago. This is even better than the Albariño and an unbeatable substitute for elite Chablis or Burgundy. Has the haunting white flowers, creamy nougat aroma of Burgundy, with the saline cut of Chablis - and more, a deep palate with a rapier cut of acidity. Sensational. Not cheap but it’s a bargain.
