Description

Garamond is Hurley's easiest to manage, most even-ripening site which is always picked last. It produces wines of fine lines, pretty red-fruited aromatics, and silken texture.

The Garamond is an effortlessly beautiful wine, with plenty going on to offer top notch Pinot pleasure.

And, yes, it is named after the font, or more accurately, after the typographer Claude Garamond, who invented the font that adorns the Hurley labels.

Garamond exudes effortless style. It ripens evenly and is always harvested last. It is classical. In this wine, the fragrance of Hurley Vineyard is the perfume of the boudoir. It is a step up in complexity and intensity. In the palate, there is usually an array of soft, red fruits, plus meat, mushrooms and cake spice. It is succulent, creamy and sweet, but balanced by lively acidity. The wine usually tastes of red minerals and has fine, silky tannins. There is often toffee. The palate is typically tight and firm in its youth, opening up as time goes on. Garamond is complete, ends fresh and lives long.

96 Points - "Medium to full red colour with good tints of purple and a slightly minty bouquet overlying red and darker cherry fruits. In the mouth, it's poised and piercing, with incisive flavour and a firmness from tannin and acidity, suggesting a little more time would do it good. It has length and drive, and the aftertaste has oodles of charm. A delicious pinot." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

95 Points - "If you're expecting a structured and powerful Garamond, which is usually part of its makeup, 2020 didn't deliver such a wine. Instead, this is an elegant, finer rendition, led by tangy acidity rather than its tannins, which are grainy yet defined. Lots of perfume from native mint, eucalyptus, baking spices and pepper, to flavours of blood orange, chinotto, black cherries and Campari." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

    One of the best

This is one of the best PN from the Mornington and definitely the best one from Hurley. What a stunner

    A beautiful experience

Scents of berries, flowers and earth. Complex and sophisticated. The fruit flavours linger.

    One of Australia’s top Pinots!

This is a quality Pinot built for the medium to long term. Great drinking now too but decant for an hour at least.

    Hauntingly Beautiful

This is easily in my top 5 Australian pinots. A magnificent beauty, the Garamond shows the hallmarks of impeccable winemaking. It is finely balanced in structure, the fruit very pure and the tannins fine and feather-like. It's top class pinot, very Burgundian, with an ethereal perfume that is intoxicating. The palate is intense with red cherries and spices. Seriously good. Lovers of pinot will not be disappointed.

    Needs age

Pinot Noir is by far the most 'personal' wine, requiring that reviewers' comments be carefully dissected, not just their scores. Fine, pure and delicately silky sure, yet lacking the reviewer's "moodiness" that implies depth, intensity, richness and complexity. Little earthiness at this young age so I will be cellaring for 3 years. I was so surprised -- given the consistently positive even exuberant reviews -- that I put it up against several other Oz PN at the same price point and it did not fare well in that company for me, making the top tier claim debatable or at least not readily generalised.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
