Description

One of the most sought-after Chardonnays in Tasmania comes from the small plot of land in Tamar Valley tended by Joe and Lou Holyman.

This is a scintillating Chardonnay. The fruit is the star of the show with Joe's wines. It's no different with the Chardonnay. He makes no additions during winemaking with just a dab of sulphur keeping the wine fresh and sound.

This is a limited release straight out of the Holyman cellar, with only a handful of bottles seeing the light of day. If you want a look at the brilliant 2020 release, you'll need to be quick!

97 Points - "Now has Lutruwita on the front label, which is a nice touch. Joe is on point.

All class. Fine-boned and filigreed, tight, precise, but delivers flavour and abundant energy. There’s a little whiff of struck match, white peach, citrus, vanilla almond cream and cinnamon, maybe some green olive, with outstanding drive and length. Pure and wonderful. Love at first sip." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    Great bargain

Tasted this alongside some solid Premier and Grand Cru Burgs. Holyman easily ranks equal, if not more. Great balance, structure and acidity - at 1/3 the price of the Burgs.

As usual, our 2020 Holyman Chardonnay was pressed straight into 100% new 500 litre French Oak puncheons for ferment and maturation. Nine months in oak before being racked and bottled.

The 2020 season was the sort of growing season in lutruwita I remember as child (just without the Pandemic thing). It was warm and stable.

There are stone fruits and reduction on the nose while the palate is slightly creamier than usual which makes for a whole mouthful of wine. The finish is long and structured, finishing with our signature fresh natural acidity.

Stoney Rise

Stoney Rise is a small winery in Tasmania's Tamar Valley that has a huge reputation.

Winemaker Joe & Lou Holyman purchased the property in 2004, a picturesque site planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay planted in 1986.

Since then, they have developed a keen following, producing some of the most stunning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the Apple Isle. Interestingly, they also have a little Gruner Veltliner and Trousseau in the ground adding a little colour to their range.

These wines fly off the shelves. And no wonder, they are right at the top of the pile in terms of quality in Tasmania at the moment, with demand far outstripping their small production each year.
