The Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir offers a glimpse into the world of Bell Hill. Sourced from select parcels of the Slope and Quarry 10/5 blocks, this 2020 release is a masterclass in balance and refinement, shaped by meticulous viticulture and sensitive winemaking.
Hand-picked and crafted with 41% whole bunch inclusion, the wine matured for 12 months in 87% new French oak before a further nine months settling in tank. Bottled in early 2022, only 1,046 bottles were produced.
The 2020 opens with lifted spice, wild bramble and berry fruits, intertwined with hints of sage and the alluring complexity of whole bunch ferment. The palate is supple and elegant, driven by sweet red fruits, lively acidity and a finely tuned mineral thread. The finish is poised and salivating, showing a quiet depth and structure that hints at rewarding mid-term cellaring.
Bright, complex and finely detailed, this is a wonderfully expressive Bell Hill Pinot to enjoy while your flagship bottles rest in the cellar.
