About The Wine
Planted around 40 years ago, the Trout Gulch vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains winemaking region sits at around 250 metres above sea level just four miles from the Pacific Coast. This is truly cool climate grape-growing territory, making elegant wines worthy of Grand Cru status!
Arnot-Roberts have been using grapes from this site for a few years now, using a gentle touch in the winery to maintain the pure expression of terroir from the vines. With wild yeast and just under a year of ageing in old French oak, this is a wine that speaks to place more than anything else.
Gorgeously balanced and with a real mineral streak, this will age well for years to come.
About Arnot Roberts
Arnot-Roberts was founded in Healdsburg in 2001 by childhood friends Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts, with one barrel of wine made in their basement.
Growing up together in the Napa Valley, from an early age they were immersed in the vineyards and winemaking of the early 1980’s. After college, the duo followed their passion into the wine industry with Nathan joining his father as a cooper of oak wine barrels and Duncan pursuing winemaking.
The focus of Arnot-Roberts is to produce distinctive, site-driven wines that highlight the nature of the unique terroirs in which the grapes are grown.
Some of the vineyards are old and dry-farmed, some are newer plantings but all are farmed, and cared for by passionate and conscientious growers, which is paramount to producing the most honest and expressive wines possible.

From The Producer
The Trout Gulch Vineyard is tucked within a dark and forested coastal canyon at 600’ above the sleepy village of Aptos, about 4 miles from the ocean in Santa Cruz County. This beautiful and pioneering site was planted by Bernard Turgeon in 1980 to the old Wente clone of Chardonnay, which is considered by many to be the heritage selection of Chardonnay in California. As with many of our sites, Trout Gulch lies at the absolute edge of ripening potential for the grape variety. We feel fortunate for the visionary farmers that planted vines in such marginal locations when we were children, so that we have the honour of working with them now in our adulthood. The soils in this cool site are fine sandy loam and the vines are carefully tended by Richard Alfaro and his top-notch crew. Harvest at Trout Gulch often stretches until mid-October and this long, slow growing season results in wines that are high in natural acidity, strong minerality, and have notable salinity on the palate. We are excited to work with such a special site and think the Chardonnays we have produced so far from this plot will age well in the cellar for years to come.

Warehouse Pickupis available from our Sydney warehouse in Ultimo, 2007. Just select Local Pickup at checkout. We are open 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
