About The Wine
The demand for the wines of Andrea Cortonesi has gone through the roof in recent years.
A string of great reviews and limited production across both the Rosso and his exemplary Brunello has seen his wine sell out in short order.
He sources only a small amount of fruit from a vineyard owned by a good friend in northern Montalcino. He makes his wines in a traditional fashion, with firm but moreish tannin as a feature.
The Rosso is 100% Sangiovese from younger vines off the property. It carries ample fruit but finishes dry and savoury - it's classic Tuscan Sangiovese for a steal.
About Voliero
Andrea Cortonesi has his finger in many winemaking pies - he is the founder, proprietor, vigneron and winemaker for Uccelliera estate in the Southern part of Montalcino. Voliero, however, is his exploration into the northern part of Montalcino, using fruit from prestigious vineyards in the area.
These wines offer a look into the other side of the coin for Cortonesi's winemaking; the energetic, fresh and vibrant side, so common in the north of Montalcino.
Antonio Galloni has said that Cortonesi's biggest competition is only himself - and with wines this good, it's hard to argue.
