About The Wine
The Southern Rhone is home to a broad array of red and white grapes, and while Grenache dominates here, you'll often find many of these different varieties blended into a single wine in varying percentages. The Stephane Usseglio Fragments is composed predominantly of Grenache, with smaller "fragments" of Syrah, Mourvedre, Counoise, and Clairette Rose, the latter being a mutation of the white grape Clairette.
The Stephane Usseglio Fragments Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a lovely wine, full of savoury and spicy characters, behind a base of ripe black fruits. As it has seen no oak, the fruit absolutely shines, with a tartness from the bright acidity and fruit sweetness.
About Stephane Usseglio
After moving from Italy to Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 1931, Francis Usseglio eventually took over a vineyard, producing his first wines in 1949. It wasn't until 1962 that Francis established his own vines, and in 1963 the domaine was taken over by Francis' son, Raymond, and daughter-in-law Danielle. In 1999, at only 22 years of age, the domaine then became managed by Raymond's son Stephane.
The Usseglio vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, illustrating their desire to care for the ecosystems in which they operate. They produce a broad range of wines, from easy-drinking table wines up to premium reds and whites.
