About This Wine
Cerebral and charming premier cru red Burgundy from the Givry appellation (not Gevrey) in the southern Cotes Chalonnaise region.
Francois Lumpp is one of the most important producers from the region, farming their own vineyards sustainably, and releasing incredibly good value Pinot and Chardonnay.
Petit Marole is a small east-facing plot, getting morning rather than warmer afternoon sun. Lots of dark cherry and spice, a flowing velvety palate and some youthful grip.
About Francois Lumpp
Having inherited his family's 9ha of vineyards in the 1970s, it was probably only a matter of time before Francois Lumpp started his own label, which he did in 1991. Since that time, his wines have received much praise, showing that the Cote Chalonnaise in Burgundy's south can produce Pinot Noir of not only exceptional quality, but also amazing value, particularly when compared to the more prestigious vineyards of the Cote d'Or to the north.
Lumpp grows both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in his vineyards, crafting a range of wines, most at premier cru level. While the whites are whole-bunch pressed, the reds are all destemmed, with all reting in barrel for around 12 months before release.
