Description

A gorgeous melding of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc here from the much-heralded Crawford River estate.

Cabernet does exceedingly well in this part of Henty, with the structure and density to age many years before it reaches its peak. The addition of the Cabernet Franc to this blend by winemaker Belinda Thomson sees the addition of enticing aromatics, just busting out of the glass.

It's an easy wine to like, and indeed love. Plenty of ripe, open fruit character, the typical tobacco and leafy notes that show in these varieties placed front and centre. It's a wine for now, or for some years down the track, depending on your preference.

Beautiful lifted, spiced blue fruits and baked red fruit are the primary forces here. Edges of liquorice and spice couple with dried herbs, bay and hints of blackberry leaf to create a lovely layered, complex palate. The tannins are soft and fine and interlaced throughout the long palate. This wine was matured in mostly old French oak creating a very fragrant, delicious wine from the fine flavoured grapes of the 2019 season.

95 Points - "This is beautiful stuff. So fragrant. A fog of sweet, green, leafy herbs, some woody spices like clove and cinnamon and a good deal of pepper too. In all that, a rich, dark fruited fragrance and some brined black olive in measure. Wonderful to sniff on. Could go on… Tastes good too! Succulent, fresh-feeling palate despite the depth of darker fruit spectrum flavours, some light but stewed rhubarb characters and a crunch of dry, cranberry drink in the mix. There’s a coolness through the wine even with all the layers of flavour; tannins are fine, lithe and gently tightening. In peak form. Delicious." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

94 Points - "75/25% cabernets sauvignon/franc. Destemmed, wild fermented, matured 12 months in French oak (10% new). The 1st rule of Cabernets is to decant. The 2nd is to put it into context as a super-cool-climate, linear example of the breed. In 2019, it is fine-edged and elegant with aromas of dark fruits, violets, leaf and heavy in exotic spices: anise, fennel seed and nutmeg. Crawford River

Crawford River is very much a family operation. The talented Thomson clan have been producing wine from their beautiful home vineyard since 1985.

The Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc thrive on the estate, but it's Riesling that they are most famous for.

They produce a range of styles of varying ages that are outstanding. Many consider them as one of the country's premier producers of the noble variety.

These are wines of purity and elegance. Small-batch, family-owned, traditional winemaking and good, honest farming is at the core of everything Crawford River does.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
