About
Continuing the argument that this is arguably Australia’s best white wine...

Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About The Wine

This is regarded by many as Australia's most cellar-worthy blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

Owner/vigneron Barry Morey makes this in a traditional way, utilising a small amount of skin contact, 100% barrel ferment and extended ageing on lees to give extra dimensions to this classic white coupling.

This wine drinks beautifully from the day it is released, but with time in bottle comes more chapters to the story.

Considered one of the touchstones for quality for Australian Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blends, this is a wine you need in your cellar.

About Sorrenberg

Barry and Jan Morey planted their stunning Beechworth vineyard in 1986. Their first release in 1989 began the Sorrenberg story, a story destined to be one of Australia's great estates.

Barry farms with adherence to biodynamics, believing this to be the best way to get the most out of his home block of 2.4 Ha. on the outskirts of Beechworth. Their wines are famous for their balance and longevity.

The wines are made in traditional fashion, with wild yeasts for fermentation, gentle oak maturation and basket pressing for each wine.

The Gamay, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and Cabernet blend are amongst the finest of heir kind in the country. Sorrenberg is one of the true gems of Beechworth, and indeed Australian, wine.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon shows a bouquet of mixed citrus with a touch of golden kiwifruit and subtle herbal characters. The palate is tight with minerality and a hint of grapefruit. These characters combine to produce a multi layered wine with excellent length and finesse." - Sorrenberg Wines

The Wine Front

"Continuing the argument that this is arguably Australia’s best white wine, we have another brilliant, personality-imbued, detailed thing on our hands. The 2018 release is more crystalline and cut, athletic and diamond-edged than 2017 or 2016, though in the tension and velocity of fruit thrust there’s the slip of faint nuttiness, oatmeal, flint, steel and, interestingly, faint green herbs. Beautiful, long, agile and delicious to drink, it’s a wine of incredible pedigree, balance and everything that makes for epic drinking. It’s a tad off the complexity of 2016, but give it some cellar time and watch it sing. Or drink now and just have a damn good time." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Delicious White

I am not a fan of overt, tropical Sauvignon Blanc styles - this beautiful wine is everything they are not. It is a fantastic food wine, it is subtle but full, it is definitely one of the best white wines I have tasted so far.

As good as many in Bordeaux

First sip gives off classic sauvignon blanc acidity and fruitiness but then the semillon kicks in with a beautiful thick, almost oily texture and mouthfeel.

There's some pine needle, forest floor greenness, some flinty minerality yet it's all underwritten by a distincive clean, dry fruitiness.

A classic that i will have to buy again to cellar.
