Description

Historically harvested from a prime 3.2-hectare plot in Serralunga, recent vintages of Massolino's Dolcetto also feature fruit from the Cascina I Maschi vineyard in Monforte d’Alba. This wine is exclusively aged in stainless steel tanks with the goal being to make a wine made for drinking during harvest, where the fresh berried fruits and soft tannins help down lunch while grapes are being brought into the cellar.

A dry classic vintage sees a slightly fuller body and darker fruit character wine compared to the 2021 vintage, yet remains equally delightful. It's a supple wine, not profound in complexity like it's Nebbiolo based cousins but very high in drinkability and much kinder to the budget. This is the wine you drink while you wait for your Baroli to mature.

Wine description:
Dolcetto d’Alba DOC Massolino displays a typically Piedmontese DNA. Careful vinification aims to make it smoother and rounder, accentuating its drinkability.

Soil composition: mixed consistency tending towards limestone.

First year of production: 1896.

Vinification and ageing: temperature controlled fermentation (around 30°C) and maceration in stainless steel lasting an average period of 7-9 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and a few months of maturation in stainless steel and cement.

Note: the soils of Serralunga convey exceptional structure to this grape, which offers characteristic freshness and fragrance.

Appearance: bright ruby red with deep purplish hues.

Bouquet: fresh, fruity, sweet and elegant perfumes strongly prevail.

Flavour: expansive and warm entry, opening into a multitude of flavours traceable to a rich and concentrated wine. Naturally dominant fruit and vinous character leaving behind a lingering and pleasant aftertaste. It is best to serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C. In keeping with Langa tradition this wine is ideal with all courses of a meal. It is also perfect for snacks featuring cured meats and cheeses, or at the beginning of a meal, served with starters (other than fish) and sliced meats. Pasta, rice, soup and red meats, particularly when grilled, enhance its good body and pleasantly drinkable quality.

    Solid Dolcetto

I have enjoyed Massolino Barolo in the past so thought I'd give this a try. It's a competitive market for Dolcetto now, and I felt this was a solid wine which lagged behind its peers just a bit. Great with food as always.

Massolino

The Massolino family's history as winegrowers in Serralunga stretches back more than a century.

Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino, the family's history is richly intertwined with that of the whole region. They now farm 23 hectares across prime real estate in the Serralunga sub-region, with premium holdings on the famed slopes of Margheria, Parafada and the legendary vineyard Vigna Rionda.

These are wines that, while classic, have continued to evolve over each generation in pursuit of the purest expression of the beloved Nebbiolo grape.

One of the great wine families of Piedmont and the wines are prized in the best cellars and restaurants in the world.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
