Description

This Cabernet Sauvignon is named after Stephen's father and one of Australia's winemaking pioneers, Cyril Henschke.

In the late 1960's, it was Cyril who planted the Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the Henschke vineyard - so it only makes sense that the resulting wine from the grapes bears his legacy.

It's an enchanting expression of Cabernet - herbs, purple florals, blackberries, plums and cherries with earthy notes and fine grained tannin. A beauty of a wine from an outstanding vintage.

Deep garnet with garnet hues. Lively and fragrant aromas of crushed flowering herbs, violets, briary blackberry, plum, black cherry and cassis, with subtle forest and cedar notes. A rich, supple and complex palate of dark forest berries, dark chocolate, cooking spices and liquorice, interlaced with fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish of fine-grained tannins./p>

96 Points - "Some of the vines for this wine were planted by Cyril Henschke back in the 1960s. Matured in French oak (10% new) for 18 months. Bright blackberry and blackcurrant fruits with top notes of redcurrant and red cherry. Olive tapenade, cedar, light briar notes and mountain herbs. Fine lacy acidity and tight, powdery tannin provide the frame, and there is no doubt that this release will age magnificently." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 Points - "Deep colour with a brick-red edge and showing some development; there are vegetal/humus and charred oak aromas at first sniff, the palate is full-bodied and slightly sinewy in mouth-feel with a little leanness and a faint dip in the middle, a little acidity showing and not 100% harmonious. On the plus side, there is depth, power, concentration, grip and length" - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

93 Points - "Strong cabernet scents, rich cassis, blackcurrant, choc-mint, whiffs of clove and woody spices too. Blueberry and choc-mint to taste, tightly wound with slippery tannins and a lick of dried herbs and clove to finish. Good concentration but holds a fine medium weight feel. Elegant, is a good word." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

97 Points - "The blend is 97% Cabernet, 2% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The wine is beautifully perfumed, though there is oak influence evident at this early stage which is integrating well and is finely balanced. Florals, raspberries, tobacco leaves, cherries, cigar box notes and bay leaves. There is excellent length here, good focus and fine acidity. The structure is exemplary though at the moment, there is a fragility to the wine. It is exquisitely pretty. Aniseed and cherry notes are to the fore on the palate and there are such soft tannins. A gentle sour plum character is sitting right at the end of the very long finish. Drive over the next twenty years." - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

97 Points - "The 40th anniversary of the first vintage of this wine, named after Stephen Henschke's father, fourth-generation winemaker Cyril, who first planted this Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in 1969. And in warmer years, like 2018, the 'solar panel' slopes of this cooler site shows what fully ripened Eden Valley Cabernet can offer. Rich purple and inky blue fruits soar from the glass: cassis, mulberry, violets and an almost pine forest-like ozone freshness that brings lift and clarity to the sumptuous palate. Beautiful length, elegance and purity, with smooth graphite-like tannins and vibrant acidity. With no 2017 produced, this is worth the wait; a fitting toast to Cyril." - Tina Gellie (Decanter)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
