About The Wine

Where the majority of the Luis Seabra reds are blends of a myriad of varieties, the Mono C showcases a single variety, Castelão, in its purest form.

If you love the more complex, structural expressions of Cru Beaujolais, this will be right in you wheel house. It shows a similar palate weight, grapey flavours of both red and purple fruits and a cracked pepper and green herb lift that comes with the territory of 100% whole bunch ferments.

The thing that sets this apart is the tannin. Oh, the tannin.

It's firm, dry, mineral and compact - it's a wonderful mid-weight red that packs a serious punch.

About Luis Seabra

Luis Seabra is a revolutionary "rock star" winemaker out of the Douro Valley in Portugal.

He forged a formidable reputation for crafting some of the region's finest table wines and fortifieds during his tenure as winemaker at the regional standard-bearer, Niepoort.

The launch of his eponymous label was his chance to make wines according to his own style preferences. These are fascinating and detailed table wines crafted from old-vine, sensitively-farmed vineyards along the famed Douro terraces.

The high altitude and dry conditions are perfect for creating the focus and tension Seabra seeks in his creations. Since garnering wide acclaim for his cuveés, Seabra has reinvigorated international attention toward his home.

The Wine Front

"This is great to drink, intriguing to drink, supple and yet draped in a veil of sandy, firm tannins Dried fruit and choc and nut characters abound, and though that sounds hearty, the wine manages energy despite the depth and sense of grunt. Jolly wine, stacked with flavour, one to pause over and dig into something nice on your dinner table too. Them tannins; the big drawcard. Really lovely gear." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

"Mid, glowing crimson. Lifted dark-red fruit that reminds me a bit of Gamay on the nose, a touch peppery with air. For a wine with 13.5% alcohol, it seems light on its feet, softly structured and nicely dry though I imagine the oak has given it a little more flesh on the mid palate. Even though it is not a typical Douro variety, it has retained the attractive stony/mineral quality of the region, avoiding unwanted sweetness, lightly chewy. Subtle, fresh, juicy and persistent. There's a light spiciness too but it seems to be more texture than flavour. As with the Mourisco, I am not sure how this will age but it still seems very youthful." - Julia Harding MW (Jancis Robinson)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.
