About the Wine

The "ripasso" method (meaning "repassed" in Italian) is an ingenious way of adding more colour, flavour and tannins to a wine. When an Amarone della Valpolicella has almost finished fermenting, it is drained off its skins, which are then placed in a vat of Valpolicella (a lighter, fruitier wine than Amarone). The wine then goes through another fermentation, resulting in a Ripasso with more body, tannin and richer flavours.

The L'Arco Valpolicella Classico Ripasso is full of character, with flavours of dried and fresh red fruits, as well as prune and dried apricot. There are now also some bottle-age notes developing, such as cigar box, resulting in a layered and delicious wine.

About L'Arco

The L'Arco wine estate takes its name from an historic stone arch, the “Arco di Giove” which dates back to 1500/1600.

It was founded by Luca Fredigo, a protege of the legendary Veneto producer Guiseppe Quintarelli, at the annoyingly young age of 20...

Luca now has seventeen acres of vineyards that are just a short walk from the Quintarelli estate, within the most traditional of the seven Valpolicella zones, Negrar.

Additional Info

From the Producer

The Estate takes its name from a stone arch, called “Arco di Giove”, located on the road to Negrar (one of the seven historic Valpolicella communes) and near the farmhouse where the Fedrigo family is located. The arch, dating from 1500/1600, was one of a series of seven arches along the hillside path near S. Vito di Negrar. Luca Fedrigo worked for 11 years for the prestigious Quintarelli winery before starting his own business. Valpolicella Ripasso is a fruity, slightly off-dry, complex red wine. Out of all the local grapes, Corvina is generally regarded as the finest and is certainly the most traditional. Depending on the vintage, 15-20% of potential Amarone (the barrels that don’t make the long ageing required by Luca) , a wine made from 100% 120 days days air dried grapes, is blended into a wine where grapes have not seen any ‘appasimento’ processes.
