2022 Les Fruits Rudy Chardonnay

This is possibly the best white wine made by Tim Stock to date. It's Adelaide Hills Chardonnay that is lean, pure, mineral-driven and fresh.

Description

This is probably the best wine Tim Stock makes.

Sourced from a tiny, co-farmed block of 38-year-old Chardonnay vines in the Piccadilly Valley, it’s a wine that Tim handles with extreme care - hand-harvested and chilled overnight before a gentle whole-bunch press. With only three barrels produced, it’s a small-batch expression that captures a very specific moment in the Hills.

There is no heavy-handed cellar trickery here; instead, the focus is on a light settling of the juice before it heads into old barrels for fermentation. It’s a tighter, more focused version of Rudy than we've seen in previous years, but it still carries that trademark mid-palate softness that makes it so drinkable.

Flavour-wise, it’s all about lemon, grapefruit, and white florals, backed by a savoury, slightly salty edge. Because it’s bottled unfined and unfiltered, the texture has a lovely "fluffy" mouthfeel, though you might find a bit of sediment in the last glass - but don't worry that's fine to drink! It’s a concentrated, energetic white that is drinking beautifully now but has the acid structure to suggest it’s only going to get better.

Rudy is sourced from a small co-farmed block of just over 1 hectare of 38-year-old Chardonnay vines deep in the Piccadilly Valley. Treated with great care along the whole journey – hand harvesting, chilling overnight, gentle whole bunch pressing and a light settling ensure the finest juice goes into barrel for fermentation.

A slightly tighter expression this year but still with the trademark generosity, perhaps a little more on the fruit in its youth. I feel its the best expression yet, and the second last release. Crystal clear when stood up, the last glass will show a little fine sediment/softening of the brightness showing its unfiltered, unfined pedigree. Delicate lemon and grapefruit tones with light white and yellow florals and white spice. Definitely more high toned and no sign of the usual nuttiness. Beautiful concentrated palate and more classic Rudy with its mid palate softness/slipperyness and sweet generous ripe citrus and apple tones. Still with its savoury slightly salty minerality and mineral toned acidity. Some lightly drying phenolics reign in the finish and together with the acidity and fruit concentration suggest the best is yet to come. BUT very delicious now.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
