Vasse Felix was the first winery in Margaret River, founded in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity. At the time, few believed fine wine could be made in this remote corner of WA. But Cullity persisted and proved them wrong. His early Cabernet Sauvignon helped define what the region could do.
Today, Vasse Felix remains family-owned and firmly rooted in that pioneering spirit. The estate now spans four vineyard sites across Margaret River, each chosen for their unique suitability to varieties like Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Sauvignon Blanc–Semillon, though Cabernet remains the flagship.
Chief Winemaker Virginia Willcock has led the winemaking since 2006. Her low-intervention, wild-ferment style has become a benchmark for the region, and her Cabernets and Chardonnays are widely regarded as some of Australia’s best.
Vasse Felix isn’t trading on nostalgia. It’s still leading the conversation in Margaret River wine over 50 years on from when it all began.
"Virginia is one of our most thoughtful and progressive winemakers, ever striving to make better, more engaging, more site- and region-specific wines. The Vasse Felix range reaches dizzying heights, but right through its four tiers, the wines consistently overdeliver with outstanding quality."
