Description

Husband and wife team of Peter Schell and Magali Gely have extensive winemaking experience in the south of France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Unlike most of Spinifex's wines, 'Bete Noir' is 100% varietal, in this case, Shiraz.

But unlike many big and bold Barossa Shiraz, with a portion of the fruit coming from the Barossa's cooler neighbour, Eden Valley, this wine has remarkable perfume, elegance and balance.

This has a distinctive 'old world' feel with the vibrancy of South Australian fruit. A wine with an impeccable track record for a true Shiraz connoisseur.

95 Points
"Glossy and impressively pure, there's ferrous edge to the tight tannins and an acid line that propels the pure fruit briskly across the palate, finishing elegant yet opulent."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

All fruit was hand harvested. The proportion of whole clusters retained in the fermentations varied from between 15% and 45%, equating to about 35 % in the final blend. Vinified with indigenous yeasts, macerations ranged from between 10 and 30 days prior to pressing and elevage on light lees in French oak barrels, 20% new, in a range of sizes from 225 through to 2500 L. Bottled 20 months after harvest. Unfixed and unfiltered. Vegan friendly.

A perfumed, dark fruited and multi-layered Barossa Valley Shiraz. Deep, complex aromas of dark plum, ripe mullberry and confit cherry are overlain with a fine veneer of dried herb, brown cardamom, carbide and fresh leather.

95 points - "Deep, bold purple-red colour; aromas of sweet ripe black fruits, blackberry and mulberry, vanilla/chocolate too, the palate full bodied and fruit-sweet at the core, then some astringency comes in thanks to acidity and tannin—but it's all in balance. Plenty happening here. A promising shiraz that will reward patient cellaring." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

94 Points - "It’s flush with fruit but there’s a meatiness to this and its churned with tannin too, grainy tannin. Charred meats, blackberries and blueberries, a floral element and fist loads of roasted spice. It’s bold but neat, tannic but not at the expense of the overall flow. Excellent gear, this." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

95 Points - "Pete Schell's Bête Noir is a shiraz blended across a selection of Barossan grounds including a portion from the cooler Eden Valley. Typically sporting a super-saturated, magenta-splashed hue with aromas of bright plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits cut with hints of violets, brown spice, ironstone, dark chocolate, smoked meats, cherry confit and earth. Glossy and impressively pure, there's ferrous edge to the tight tannins and an acid line that propels the pure fruit briskly across the palate, finishing elegant yet opulent." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Outstanding

Peter Schell is a gifted winemaker who makes outstanding quality wine from Barossa/Eden Valley. The Bet'e Noir shiraz is consistently outstanding each vintage. Drinks well as a young wine but the rewards are there with bottle ageing.

Awesome Wine but not your typical Barossa Shiraz

Really lovely wine. Made more in a European style than your typical boring Big Bold Barossa Style.

Medium Body, Beautiful Balance and just a really well balanced smashable wine.

    Delicious

Spinifex Wines

Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
