Description

The Zenit (German for 'Zenith') is a 'super Riesling' of sorts - which combines the best bits of fruit from both the Eden Valley and Clare Valley that John Hughes gets access to each vintage, and puts the quality on show.

There is precious little of this wine available. Dry, tightly wound, immaculately balanced and meant to be a standard bearer for all South Australian Rieslings.

It will live forever in the cellar yet has the fruit depth and flavour intensity to be excellent right now. This is John's finest classic Riesling release each year and is not to be missed, but you better swoop quick.

Zenit is a German name, meaning pinnacle. No.10 is made on selected years, and is a blend of regions. The wine is put together by my wife Belinda, who is also a winemaker, and myself. We blend both regions and vineyards, making a wine that we believe best represents the vintage.

95 Points - "The 2022 No. 10 is a regional blend of 59% Clare Valley and 41% Eden Valley. The wine captures the essence of both areas: the flesh and enveloping nature of the Clare Valley and the crushed rock austerity and distinct floweriness of the Eden. In some senses, it lacks the definition that some of the other cuvées possess, due to its sourcing, but what it misses there, it picks up in density, line, length and form. This is a savory, lingering and powerful Riesling, one for the ages. The lemony acidity lingers in the mouth in a Warheads way; it will live an age if you choose to cellar it." - Erin Larkin (Robert Parker Wine Advocate)

95 Points - "Spices and herbs and yeasty touches to sniff: gardenia florals and sweet basil herbiness, the palate dry and yet soft textured, taut and tense, with firm acidity and tight structure. A wine of real finesse, the fruit quite reserved at this early stage. High potential but it needs time." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

95 Points - "Made for the long-term, this remarkable 2022 dry riesling has citrus aromas that range from lime to pomelo plus green mango and touches of flint and parsley. For the cool vintage this has a very impressive ripeness and a seriously racy finish that lights up the sky. A cuvee of 59% Clare Valley and 41% Eden Valley wines. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - JamesSuckling.com

94 Points - "At the apex of John Hughes' work, this is the definitive expression of riesling drawing together 59/41% Clare Valley and Eden Valley fruit. It's concentrated and relatively rich, albeit swashbuckling in its filigree of tart acidity and chalky, chewy phenolic grip. The perfume is ripe apple, lime, quince and green mango with faint, alpine herb lift. Flavours run riot between brown lime, ginger, green apple and some truffley, savoury elements with the texture quite juicy and the finish tingly with flinty mineral elements. Potent, powerful and layered, this is a riesling of great presence." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Great Aussie riesling

Bone dry and delicious. Palate slightly short but will no doubt lengthen with age. Buy up, hard to find better at this price.

Rieslingfreak

Rieslingfreak founder & winemaker John Hughes is quite simply making the most comprehensive, high-quality and remarkably priced range of Rieslings in the country.

Growing up in the family Riesling vineyard in Clare Valley, which John still farms today, Riesling simply runs through this man's blood. John, with the help of his talented winemaking wife Belinda, make only Riesling - not a bottle of any other variety - and they've honed their craft to a level unmatched in Australia.

They are two of the nicest people you're likely to meet, so wholeheartedly committed to their vision and craft, and we are proud to have worked so closely with them for so many years. These wines rank amongst the very best value to be found anywhere in Australia, and we give them our fullest recommendation. Enjoy!

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
