Introducing: Woodlawn Tasmania from Ricky Evans!

It is with great excitement that we introduce you today to a new chapter in the story of one of the brightest winemaking talents in the country, Ricky Evans.

Over the last decade of making his own wines, Evans has moved from winemaker to grape grower. Two Tonne Tasmania is where he cut his teeth, digging into the sub-regional differences across Tasmania. As he has matured as a producer, he realised a sense of place in his wines had become the driving force behind all he does.

For Evans, all great wines start in the vineyard. He's been farming several vineyards across the Tamar Valley for some years now, steadily increasing the quality of his TMV offerings and showcasing the best of those sites under the much sought-after Dog & Wolf label.

In 2021, the planets aligned with excellent fruit quality from two of his vineyards, Three Wishes and Waverley, and it felt like the right moment to enact the long-standing plan of showcasing these sites individually.

"This release is the culmination of a body of work that pretty much covers my whole career as an independent grower/producer.
They are the first pivot away from a safe space I enjoyed whilst learning about these sites; how to farm them, what makes them work, what doesn't, and how to get them to bottle without stuffing them up.
These wines are the first step outside of that safe space where we used to sit."
- Ricky Evans

The Three Wishes vineyard was the 'Wolf' component of the Dog & Wolf blend. It was the darker, moodier, more smouldering of the two sites. In the Pinot Noir, it was the attitude. In the Chardonnay, the voluptuous texture and power.

The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Waverley vineyard, by contrast, are softer, more seductive as young wines, with thrilling acidity and purity of fruit.

Ricky Evans' career has come full circle with this release. These are simply the finest wines we've seen from him, which given his impeccable track record, is no mean feat.

When the ever-humble Evans sauntered into DDHQ to taste these new flagships this week, even he had to gingerly admit that these are some of his best work yet. With his exacting standards, we knew they would be good. But they're better than that. They are brilliant.

With just 70 dozen of each made and a loyal flock of followers champing at the bit for their own slice of this debut, we expect them to be gone in short order.
