2025 Worlds Apart Blue Eyes Gamay

History was made at the 2025 Adelaide Hills Wine Show when this wine took home the trophy for Best Red Wine of Show. In a competition traditionally dominated by powerful Shiraz, this is the first time a Gamay has ever claimed the top prize - a monumental achievement that signals just how exciting this variety has become in the Hills.

Sourced from the Eureka vineyard in Woodside - a fascinating east-facing site situated on an old gold mine - this wine is a field blend of three distinct Gamay clones. It was the very last pick of the vintage, allowing the fruit to build maximum character on the vine before Louis Schofield applied his signature touch.

A single 100% whole-bunch ferment, it walks a thrilling tightrope between texture and energy. It offers notes of textured strawberry compote and primary red fruits, balanced by a savoury edge and the kind of "high energy" acid zing that clearly caught the judges' attention. Ripping value on offer here from Louis.

2024 Worlds Apart Blewitt Springs Grenache

If you needed more proof that Blewitt Springs is the "Grand Cru" of Australian Grenache, this is it. Louis Schofield has crafted a wine that perfectly captures the "pinosity" of the variety - that rare ability of Grenache to deliver the haunting perfume and elegance of something like Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo when treated with respect.

Sourced from the Brini family vineyard, these 80-year-old dry-grown bush vines sit deep in the famous sandy soils of the sub-region. The winemaking is delicate and intentional, with a careful inclusion of whole bunches providing a fine skeletal structure to the fruit.

The result is lean, racy, and incredibly bright. It is a wine that dances across the palate with a weightless quality, offering fragrant floral aromatics dusted with spice. "Crunchy" and exuberant, this is the style of low-alcohol Grenache that we could literally drink all day. With only 141 six-packs produced, it is one of the team's absolute favourites of the year—and it won’t last long.

"There’s a lightness of touch here, a transparency of expression, the tannins ultra-fine, quietly going about their job, the texture a silky glide, absent heft or fat. It’s a very good release."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

2024 Worlds Apart Loud Places Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay

Louis Schofield waited years to find the right fruit to make the Chardonnay he had always dreamed of, and in 2024, the stars aligned in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley.

Sourced from a cold, elevated vineyard grown by the Virgara family, this wine is a masterclass in the "refined elegance" that the Adelaide Hills does better than almost anywhere else. The cool, long growing season allowed the fruit (clones 76 and 96) to ripen slowly, retaining incredible natural acidity while building deep flavour.

The result is a Chardonnay of restraint and precision, but not at the expense of pleasure. It is elegant yet full-flavoured, offering a complex array of citrus and stone fruit notes with a tight mineral backbone. This is a wine born from patience and a specific vision, and the team is rightfully proud of it.

"Neatly serried, expressive but refined. It’s flavourful, detailed and quite delicious, while also having considerable verve and ageing potential."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

2024 Worlds Apart Hope Forest Sauvignon Blanc

If you are looking for a standard "tropical fruit bomb" Sauvignon Blanc, you might want to keep walking. But if you are looking for texture, complexity, and a bit of wild energy, you have come to the right place.

Sourced from the Brackenwood Vineyard in Hope Forest (Southern Adelaide Hills), this wine is Louis Schofield’s rebuttal to the "overt obviousness" often seen in the variety. It is designed to speak of place rather than just simple fruit.

The winemaking is key to this shift in style: fermented wild, it starts with a lick of skin contact before moving to seasoned French barrels. This process builds a wine that is vivacious and lightly grippy, trading aggressive passionfruit notes for savoury elegance, balance, and a textural mouthfeel. It is Sauvignon Blanc with a serious, sophisticated edge.

"Depth of flavour is pretty amazing here. Texture is sublime. Salinity is up and delicious... There is a tempering from the texture and concentration of citrus character, though. You’d let this sit in cellar a while too."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Worlds Apart

Worlds Apart is the small adventurous label of winemaker Louis Schofield and chef Hannah Jeffery.

Louis was the protege and assistant winemaker of the late Taras Ochota. From the Ochota Barrels wine studio Louis sharpened his winemaking skills and attacks the World Apart wines with a similar low-intervention but high attention to detail philosophy.

The grapes come from small local growers who farm with a sustainable ideology. These are small-batch, high-energy wines that pop out of the glass with loads of personality.
