Tasmania's Pinot Noir Maestro releases a trio of single vineyard Pinot Noirs, highlighting the variety of terroirs within the Derwent River Valley that winds north west out of Hobart.
La Roccia, the Rock, is the plot that produces the most sturdy, structured and cellar-worthy of wines - though it is, of course, delicious to look at right now.
The fruit is on the darker spectrum with a plummy plushness, and some spicy notes in the background. Simply irresistible.

"Intense, perfumed aromas of dark cherries, raspberries and dried roses with black tea, crushed rocks and sandalwood. The powerful, tightly wound palate has bright acidity and firm tannins, showing pomegranate, blood oranges and pencil shavings yet with a subtle, earth-driven finish. Long, mineral and age-worthy. Excellent. One of the finest pinots in the new world. Drink or hold."

Tasmania offers the perfect growing conditions for Pinot Noir, and the Stefano Lubiana Il Giardino Pinot Noir utilises those conditions perfectly.
With the name Il Giardino (Italian for "the garden"), this wine comes from a small block located next to the original vegetable garden, which now mainly grows wild mustard. Like the mustard, the Pinot is a bit wild but shows beautiful fruit and acid tension, as well as some tannin bite, which will all meld together seamlessly over the coming years, but it's still a great drop already.
This rich and ripe Pinot will pair excellently with duck breast or even a rich Indian curry.

"Perfumed, delicately detailed aromas of wild strawberries, red cherries, rose petals, dried herbs, orange peel and wet earth. The midweight, textural palate has bright acidity and fine tannins. Long and savory, showing quiet power and precision with an ethereal floral edge. Excellent. Drink or hold."

The Stefano Lubiana Ruscello Pinot Noir is a straight-up gorgeous drop with wonderful fruit characters.
Coming from a pleasant little vineyard next to a babbling little stream ("ruscello" means "stream" in Italian), this is the ideal wine to drink while pondering life on the banks of a river, bay or ocean. The fruit is pristine while the aromas and flavours sit firmly within the red camp, with a touch of cherry tartness and heaps of acid.
Like Il Giardino, it can cellar for a few more years, but it's already very approachable and pretty right now.

"Lifted, floral and spicy aromas of red cherries, raspberries, rose hips, orange zest, dried herbs, blood oranges and crushed stones. The palate is vibrant and tightly wound with bright acidity and finely integrated tannins that lead into a long mineral finish. Just like the producer’s other 2023 bottlings, it's excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
