2023 Donnhoff Nahe Riesling
The Donnhoff Nahe Riesling is a delightful wine with a lot of character. With aromas and flavours of green apple, smoke and spice, and vibrant acidity, the off-dry (slightly sweet) nature of the wine keeps everything in balance and makes it really easy to polish off a bottle.
It's a high quality 'entry-level 'Riesling that's guaranteed to please many people. It would be a nice wine to have on a warm evening or with foods such as stir fries or even fish and chips. Best drunk when young.
2021 Villa Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling
Twenty years ago, Ernst Loosen expanded his winemaking horizons by taking over the JL Wolf estate in Wachenheim, Pfalz. This region, shielded by the Haardt Mountains, offers a warm, dry climate perfect for grape growing. Together with winemaker Patrick Möllendorf, Ernst has brought his passion for creating intense, powerful wines to this unique terroir.
Ernst’s journey into winemaking is as fascinating as his wines. Initially set on a path in archaeology, he returned to the family estate in the mid-1980s, studying at Geisenheim and learning from top winemakers worldwide. His approach blends traditional methods with modern techniques, focusing on organic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar.
The 2021 Wachenheimer Riesling is a product of this dedication. Sourced from the premier cru Knigswingert vineyard, it boasts elegant mineral purity and vibrant intensity. This Riesling is bright with citrus and fresh herb notes, balanced by crisp acidity and a distinctive stony character from the vineyard’s terroir.
2023 Dr Loosen Dr L Dry Riesling
This must surely be one of the true bargain Rieslings of the Mosel.
Since taking control of his family's 200+-year-old winery in 1988, Ernst Loosen has taken Dr. Loosen to new heights. His commitment to organic farming, gentle winemaking and absolute quality has seen him revolutionise the way that Dr. Loosen approached their great vineyard holdings on the slopes and valleys of the Mosel.
This is a crisp, clean, juicy and refreshing Riesling. A fruit-driven wine, with a juicy mid-palate and a crisp, dry finish.
2022 Ansgar Clusserath Vom Schiefer Trocken
The 2022 Vom Schiefer Trocken from Ansgar Clüsserath, crafted by Eva Clüsserath-Wittmann, is a pure expression of Mosel Riesling. Sourced from the steep, slate-rich vineyards of Trittenheimer Altärchen and Neumagener Rosengärtchen, this wine is all about precision and balance.
The nose bursts with fresh citrus, mandarin orange, and orange blossom, while the palate delivers crisp lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, underpinned by a subtle peachy note. A fine tannic texture adds depth without detracting from the wine’s refreshing vibrancy. The interplay between ripe fruit and slate-driven minerality defines its sleek, lemony finish.
Hand-harvested and naturally fermented in traditional wooden vats, the wine ages on lees for extra complexity. Stuart Pigott awarded it 91 points for its finesse and clarity. Ideal with seafood or enjoyed on its own.

2022 Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Kabinett Trocken Riesling
Outstanding value premium Riesling from the Pfalz, from a cult producer renowned for making textured, slightly oxidative wines, with long ageing in oak.
This premium-grade fruit is picked by hand in five stages to attain perfect balance of both ripeness and steely acidity. The ferment is arrested just before the wine goes dry, which gives it a sweet, lime-and-honey-like character.
This long, slow, time to get to bottle is well worth it. This drinks like a dream.
2022 Gunderloch Fritz's Riesling
Gunderloch is one of Rheinhessen's top producers.
Brought to prominence by the late, great Fritz Hasselbach, Fritz' legacy today is carried on by his thoughtful and incisive son, Johannes.
This wine is the creation of Johannes and was named for his late father. It's insane value in the context of German Riesling.
It's juicy, succulent, and gives that combination of sweet, jellied lime and crunchy acid that only the Germans can do.
If you want a no-brainer Riesling that you can rip the top off any night of the week, Fritz's Riesling is near impossible to go past.
