Description

Shaw + Smith’s Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most recognisable white wines in the country, and the 2025 release is right on form - clean, bright and refreshingly precise. Made entirely from Adelaide Hills fruit, it’s a snapshot of cool-climate winemaking done with discipline and a light touch.

The fruit is handpicked and gently pressed, with fermentation kept cool and clean to lock in flavour and energy. No oak, no distractions - just focus on texture, balance and purity. The 2025 vintage had a mild growing season, giving grapes with great flavour at modest alcohol and crisp natural acidity.

It’s not aiming for wild or edgy - it’s about clarity, drive and drinkability. Fresh citrus, some passionfruit, maybe a little herbal twist, all neatly tucked in. Built to drink young, and very hard to stop at one glass.

"Apple, pear, tropical fruit and citrus flavours, all whispered with lemongrass... punches of flavour but none of them are at your face."

A tightly coiled wine that leans on the Lemon Aspen, nashi pear and grapefruit side. A hint of Lilikoi but very subtle, with some silver needle and paperbark. This kindles its citrus fruit with an elegant natural line of acidity, paired back and complimented by some lemon pith and white melon. In a dry and warm year, the S + S team have captured the vitality of their golden child but showcasing the fresh grace that sunshine and hang time can bring. Perhaps a less device style of Sauvignon Blanc for a crowd, I’m thinking wedding vibes. A nice partnership might be Meredith goats cheese arancini, on a lawn under the sunshine. Drink now or forever hold your peace.

The Wine Advocate 92 Points

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc hails from a hot, dry season, and the wine is typically tight and crunchy, both aromatically and in the mouth. Notes of cassis and green apple, juniper and sugar snap peas coalesce in the mouth, confirming this wine's consistent legacy of purity and elegance over time. It's reliably lovely. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

91 points - "If you rock up to the wine fridge at your local and grab this as your staple, how are you doing? Not bad, I’d say. You get fruit flavour served squeaky clean. You get a slip of texture, like white grape skins, soft but with a bit of grab. You get apple, pear, tropical fruit and citrus flavours, all whispered with lemongrass. It throws punches of flavour but none of them are at your face." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

    Shaw & Smith- perfect

My wife loves this drop and we will be reordering it for sure.

We had been looking for it for a while

From our estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood, complemented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers.

Typically it shows a pink grapefruit character, concentration and mid-palate texture, which reflect the carefully selected sites and hand harvesting during the small window of perfect ripeness.
