Description

Nothing says summer like the release of Surfer Rosa. It’s Ochota’s take on Rosé: crisp, dry, and built for the kind of afternoons that turn into evenings without you noticing.

This year’s blend is Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills with a splash of old-vine Grenache (and just a whisper of Gewürztraminer for lift). Picked early to lock in freshness, it shows pale salmon in the glass and bursts with red berries, citrus zest and a flicker of spice. The palate is snappy and textural - think cranberry, strawberry and a little savoury grip - before finishing bone dry.

It’s not trying to be complicated, just beautifully judged. A chilled bottle of Surfer Rosa, some good company, and you’re set.

Organic old vine Grenache, grown by Rino in the Onkaparinga Hills, McLaren Vale, Kaurna Country. 12% Gewürztraminer added to give aromatic pop.
Handpicked whole bunches, crushed into the press, then racked four days later for indigenous fermentation to kick off.

Ethereal pale salmon pink with iridescent vibrancy is the telltale sign of restrained and elegant red fruits.
The spice-infused nose lifts with lingonberries and charcuterie.
The palate entry is full, but has a savory line which is supported by a lively snappy texture reminiscent of persimmon beads and cranberries.
The finish is dry with lingering ripe strawberries.
Best served chilled with your favourite people.

Ochota Barrels are the epitome of rockstar wine labels.

The grungy, minimalist attitude that they have towards their wines has seen them gain huge cult status internationally as one of the most boundary-pushing winemakers in Australia. After the passing of Taras, Amber Ochota is now at the helm at her home in the beautiful Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills. Their wines are crafted in small batches, with fruits sourced from surrounding vineyards in the Hills and special sites across McLaren Vale. Taras' legacy of lighter, more ethereal wines live on, with freshness and 'tension' as a motif.

These are highly sought-after and extremely limited wines which have a pulsating energy and drive to them. Some of the country's most exciting vinous creations, no doubt.
