Description

Yangarra has been obsessed with Roussanne since 2007, and they are easily the benchmark for the variety in Australia. They treat the fruit with real kid gloves, hand-picking the blocks before a super gentle press. For this 2024, they aged it for seven months in older French oak and a clay amphora, which builds up that beautiful, savoury texture they are famous for without masking the fruit.

The 2024 season was a bit warmer, which gave this wine plenty of upfront muscle and richness. On the nose, it is completely exotic, bursting with poached pear, baked apple, ginger and a hint of manuka honey, alongside this really cool, salty coastal shrub character.

On the palate, it is wonderfully plush and slippery, but it stays totally fresh. You get heaps of grilled nectarine and grapefruit, but the real magic is the way the natural acidity and waxy grape skins work together to snap the finish tight. It is a big, serious white wine that cries out for food, think hot-smoked trout, pork belly or a rich terrine.

"Intensity, texture, complexity and ample structure – it’s all there and still with a fresh appeal. Excellent."

94 points - "Hand-picked before slow and gentle pressing, keeping the finest free-run separate. Matured for seven months in 1–3-year-old French oak puncheons and a cocciopesto amphora. There’s lovely density on display here with preserved lemon, baked peach, baked yellow apple, grilled nectarine and candied ginger making up the core. Delicate stone fruit blossom notes dance around the edges adding prettiness, along with allusions of manuka honey, saltbush and some grilled-nut savouriness. The aromatic balance is very attractive, with the fruit, floral and savoury tones melding perfectly. The palate is richly textured while still precise and fresh — yellow apple, peach, nectarine, gentle honey, grilled nuts, candle wax. The phenolics and acidity hold hands to cut it all up and frame it long – very long, in fact – with the former adding a subtly papery texture. Intensity, texture, complexity and ample structure – it’s all there and still with a fresh appeal. Excellent." - Tom Kline (Wine Pilot)

94 points - "There’s a lovely freshness here, with floral and saline-edged aromas supported by delicate notes of honeysuckle, lemon confit and mandarin oranges. The palate shows great tension and purity, driven by a mineral line of acidity. Pristine and generous, without any of the fleshiness of warmer vintages. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

93 points - "There’s body, there’s flavour and there’s more than a little texture. This is a ripe and rich expression of roussanne. Grapefruit, grilled nectarines, stones, smoke and cooked apple characters drift into peppermint, saltbush and mineral. There’s so much going on that I double-checked and re-poured my sample to make sure that I had the right wine. There’s almost a whisper of lychee here. It’s certainly pleasurable. Flamboyant even. A flash of cedary-sawdusty character completes the picture." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

93 points - "A warmer season than the few prior, though not hot per se, but this certainly has some power and richness to it. Poached pear and apple, custard apple, feijoa, crème brûlée, a hint of fresh mint, lime oil and some balancing rocky mineral notes. It’s textural, somewhat viscous in feel, slippery in a good way, but built for food that has a good deal of import – hot-smoked trout, mackerel, pork terrine etc. It’s an exotic release, intensely flavoured and generously proportioned, but it certainly finishes with a good deal of vigour." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "Medium-deep yellow, showing some evolution, the bouquet rich and nutty with ripe stone-fruits and poached fruit compote. The same flavours are on the palate in abundance with richness and fleshy texture, round shape and amplitude. A very subtle suggestion of barrel work adds extra richness and character. A very smart roussanne." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate stands as one of the defining properties of the Blewitt Springs sub-region in McLaren Vale. Famous for its ancient North Maslin Sands and gnarly old bush vines, it is a single-vineyard estate dedicated exclusively to the varieties of the Southern Rhône.

For over a quarter of a century, the estate was shaped by the late Peter Fraser. Pete was not just the winemaker; he was the heartbeat of the operation and a visionary who fundamentally changed the way the world views Australian Grenache. He championed "purity, beauty and elegance," moving the needle away from high alcohol and extraction towards finesse and site expression. His pioneering work with ceramic eggs, amphorae and biodynamic farming helped earn Yangarra the title of International Winery of the Year twice.

While the loss of Pete is deeply felt across the industry, the wines remain a lasting testament to his genius. From the world-class Old Vine Grenache and the brooding Ironheart Shiraz to the textural, ceramic-aged Roussanne, every bottle reflects his philosophy of "always a little further." Today, Yangarra remains a certified biodynamic powerhouse and a benchmark producer, continuing to honour the legacy of one of the country's greatest winemakers.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
