Description

Xavier Goodridge’s 2024 Pa Pa Pinot Noir is the kind of wine that just makes you smile. Sourced from Mount Gambier and Heywood in South West Victoria, this is Xavier’s original flagship wine - a joyous, no-fuss Pinot designed for pure enjoyment.

It's a playful Pinot with its bright ruby hue, inviting you in with aromas of cherry blossoms, rose petals, and hibiscus. The palate bursts with juicy cranberry and tart cherry flavours, touched by a hint of sweet kirsch and nervy acidity.

Fermented in stainless steel and aged in a mix of stainless and old barrels, this Pinot Noir keeps its focus on bright fruit and lively acidity. It’s light-bodied, with a savoury finish that makes it incredibly moreish. Chill it down and serve it on a warm day - it’s a Pinot meant to be enjoyed casually, at a picnic or around the dinner table.

This is a wine that’s all about easy, breezy drinking, with just enough complexity to keep you coming back for more.

It’s a widely accepted truth that good pinot noir is harder to find than a dropped contact lens on an ice rink. This lively, supple, prancing pony of a pinot reminds us to question widely accepted truths. The fruit comes from both sides of the border between Mt Gambier and Fabulous Phil Carmen’s hometown of Heywood, and Xavier Goodridge shapes it into a bright fruited, aromatically lifted and savoury edged wine that punches well above its weight.

92 points - "Mt Gambier and Heywood, the latter in the southwest of Victoria, supplied the fruit used in this pleasing style. Stainless steel was the home for the fermentation of the fully destemmed grapes, before a short period in a mix of older barrels and stainless steel. Good value. Garnet/crimson in colour, the nose gives us notes of red fruits, dried herbs, red cherries, animal skins, florals, raspberries, kirsch and mushrooms. There is juicy acidity here, giving the wine a brightness and energy, with gentle grip and good persistence. An attractive and fresh Pinot which lingers. For drinking over the next two to three years." - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

92 points - "The fruit for this wine is sourced from Mount Gambier and Heywood in South West Victoria. It offers impressive intensity and complexity at this price point. Dark cherry, pine needle, hazelnut and woody nutmeg spice lead the aromatic profile, with delicate notes of cherry blossom adding lift. It’s bright and gently autumnal in tone. The palate is cooling and lifted, opening with a swath of dark cherry and hazelnut, followed by hints of red rose, cranberry, and subtle decaying leaf. Fine, chalky tannins frame the finish, carried by a push of kirsch-laced acidity. Bright, fresh and puckish, yet with plenty of depth to enjoy. Nicely done." - Tom Kline (Wine Pilot)

    Papa Pinot

This Pinot is juicy fruity delicious and well priced. I bought it originally sentimentally having just lost my father however I discovered a cracker of a wine as a result. Thanks dad and thanks Xavier.

The fruit comes from Mount Gambier and Heywood in South West Victoria. This is Xavier’s original flagship wine. Made to make people happy. As Xavier says, it's everything that a Pinot Noir should be! The grapes are 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel for 2-3 weeks. Pressed and aged in a mixture of stainless and old barrels then filtered and bottled in August. Simple.

This Pinot has a translucent bright ruby colour, it’s dazzling. It starts with a bouquet of flowers, cherry blossoms, rose petals and hibiscus. There are umami notes of fresh hazelnuts in skins, game meat and wet forest floor. Flavours are full of cranberry juice and tart cherries with a hint of sweet kirsch character. It has a light touch, savoury finish and lifted acidity. Very moreish, so easy to drink.
