Description

Angus Vinden is one of the sharpest young winemakers in the Hunter, and his Shiraz Nouveau is a brilliant example of how he’s pushing the region forward while staying true to its roots.

This is Shiraz made for the here and now – bright, juicy and wonderfully perfumed. Sourced from Angus’s own vineyard (planted in 1995) and a site in Broke, it’s wild-fermented with a touch of whole bunch and then aged in concrete and old oak. The result is a light, energetic red full of red berries, spice and a little floral lift.

It’s the kind of wine that takes Hunter Shiraz in a fresher, more playful direction. Best served with a slight chill, it’s perfect for warm afternoons, casual dinners and those times you just want a glass that goes down easy.

Modern Hunter Shiraz at its most delicious.

    Great Hunter Valley RED

This is great Hunter Valley "nouveau style" Shiraz. It's a lot lighter than normal Hunter Shiraz, but has a point of difference that makes it interesting. Its ready for drinking this summer, I tried it chilled but preferred it at normal ambient temperature.

    Tasty twists on hunter Shiraz!

    Wish I purchased more

This light, crisp, perfumed style of Shiraz was sourced from our Vinden vineyard planted in 1995 over red clay soil and Stoney Broke Vineyard in Broke. Wild fermented with 10% whole bunch, 90% whole berry in open concrete tanks and matured in concrete tanks/ neutral French oak barrels. Enjoy it now or on a hot summer’s day - serve slightly chilled. Cheers!

Vinden Estate

Angus Vinden, the dynamic young winemaker of Vinden Wines, is redefining this beloved Hunter Valley winery. Taking over from his father a few years ago, Angus has infused fresh energy into the family label, producing exciting, modern wines that are garnering attention from the country's leading wine scribes.

He focuses on the Hunter Valley's classic Semillon and Shiraz, excelling with Tempranillo and even Chenin Blanc while exploring these varieties with a creativity and flair rarely seen in the region. Angus expanded the estate with the purchase of the historic Somerset Vineyard, a vineyard with a storied past, having provided the fruit for some of the region’s most acclaimed wines over the last 50+ years. It is a very good thing for the region that this iconic site is now in Gus' hands.

Vinden Wines is a vibrant blend of tradition and innovation, making it hands down one of the Hunter Valley's most exciting up-and-coming labels.
