Description

This is the flagship Pinot from The Wanderer range, and it’s easy to see why it’s built a loyal following.

Sourced from a low-yielding site in Yellingbo, deep in the Upper Yarra, it’s a single vineyard MV6 Pinot planted on free-draining red volcanic soils at 200m elevation. The site gives serious concentration, and Andrew Marks keeps the winemaking light-touch – just 20% whole bunch, wild ferment, and élevage in large format French oak (30% new) for 11 months. No fining, no filtration.

The result is a Pinot with polish and presence. Red and dark fruit meet gentle reduction, lifted spice and bright, crunchy tannins. It’s sleek and complex but not trying too hard – a beautifully judged Yarra Pinot with a bit of tension and a lot of charm.

As always, made in tiny quantities and sure to go quickly, especially after taking home the Trophy for the Best Pinot Noir at the 2025 Yarra Valley Wine Show.

"This is another super release. Read everything you can about Australian pinot noir and then just go out and buy Wanderer and Gembrook Hill... From the first sip to the last you are fully aware that you are in the hands of beauty. But this – at $58, remarkably – and you’re missing out on nothing."

This is another super release. Read everything you can about Australian pinot noir and then just go out and buy Wanderer and Gembrook Hill. Smoke, red cherries, fragrant herbs, undergrowth and graphite. The tension in this wine is electric; the finish is authoritative; the complexity is inherent and from the first sip to the last you are fully aware that you are in the hands of beauty. But this – at $58, remarkably – and you’re missing out on nothing.

    Glorious Yarra Pinot Noir

This was a repeat buy after trying it elsewhere, pure Pinot flavours, lovely soft palate and long finish. So good already, but past vintages have shown even better after a few years.

    Beautiful and delicate

Bright red in the glass, light and velvety on the tongue. A true delight and easy drinking Pinot noir.

Excellent wine. We had it at a restaurant, and it was so good we ordered a half dozen from Different Drop during dinner! Not disappointed when they arrived.

The Wanderer

The Wanderer is Andrew Marks’ personal venture, allowing him to step beyond his family’s Gembrook Hill vineyard to craft wines that reflect his deep winemaking experience. Raised at Gembrook Hill, one of the Yarra Valley’s pioneering vineyards, Andrew’s path was shaped by early exposure to viticulture and formal training at the University of Adelaide. His work at Penfolds, along with vintages in France and Spain, honed his ability to blend traditional techniques with a modern, thoughtful approach.

Under The Wanderer label, Andrew produces wines that express the unique character of each vineyard with minimal intervention. His delicate Pinot Noir, refined Chardonnay, and Rhone-inspired Syrah showcase finesse and precision, capturing the natural nuances of the fruit. These wines are all about subtlety and complexity, evolving naturally over time to reveal their layers.

Produced in small quantities, The Wanderer wines are highly sought after and known to sell out quickly. Each limited release reflects Andrew’s journey and his dedication to crafting wines that tell a story—of place, of vintage, and of his evolution as a winemaker. For those who appreciate elegance and nuance, The Wanderer offers something truly special, albeit fleeting.
